Appears its almost time for me to get my brakes done on the front :( and it looks to be very very dear from FIAT approx £300ish.

Whats everyone else with an MJET GPS done about new brakes? I've had a quick search and cant find much.

brakes4u.co.uk is coming out just shy of £100 for Green Stuff pads and their standard Discs.

Anyone else got ideas, reviews and prices?

47,000 miles here and my original equipment Fiat brake pads are about a 3rd worn, bit of a lip on the original discs but will be perfick for thousands of miles yet... do some people drive on their brakes or what?

48k here and its getting time to change my fronts, I do alot of "enthusiastic" driving though

:) I accept I dont blaze around these days but I do get a shift on, I suppose a lot of Motorway miles has been to the benefit of my brakes.

I think I'll go for Red Dot grooved discs and some pads from them when the time comes, the original pads / discs do have a little fade when coming out of Warp... :p

yeah mine started to fade a bit on the track, they did really well though, Im gonna stick with the standard disks and stick some Mintex pads in I think :)

A while back someone made the valid point that a lot of the brake kits are common across models. So don’t get caught paying a premium for (say) GP pads/discs when they maybe no different from those fitted to (say) a *Stilo at half the cost.

* I think it was a Stilo mentioned but unconfirmed.

Can anyone cross ref. P/No.s on this for confirmation? ... (amended 2009/05/01 17:24) although thinking again, the P/No's may not flag up they're common.

Try your local motor factors. Last month I got new front mintex pads for 1.9 sporting think they were about £22 for a set including VAT. They are the same pads that are on the Stilo so think thats why they are reasonable.

Got rear ones last week an they were £38. Still not bad though for mintex pads.

That was from Coulthards Motor Factors in Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham, if you ring them they may be able to post out to you. Sure they will ave a website also.

If the screeching is at the back (Sporting as we have rear discs) maybe you need the modified brake dampeners, alternativley it could just be brake dust between the disc pad.

Most modern brakes now make stupid nosies due to changes in the composition of the material e.g. no Asbestos.

I had my pads changed before and they still screeched like there was no tomorrow.

Not ready for pads just yet at 28K but getting some brake squeal if I brake when not flying straight & level i.e. if I brake with some lock-on.

Some 20 years back I recall watching a Fiat guy change the pads on my Regata 85S. He chamfered the sharp edges off the pads with a flat file & claimed it eliminated brake squeal. Fairly common knowledge - sure to be something on that in FF if you search.

had mine 1.2 front brake pads change only a few days ago for £66 with an indepandant garage. Car only did 11k...:(

Arnold Clark Fiat dealers doing pads supplied and fitted at £75.

Pads and discs £125.

This seems very good value.:)
