Dear Forum,

I am thinking of a pre-reg MJet its 5 months old with 10 miles on the clock, so basically new in all but registration. What do you think this would be worth? so that I can start negotiations with the garage. Its a bog standard Sporting with no added extras, that I can notice anyway!

Also, if anyone has any comments on why or why I should go for this over an Mjet Eleganza. Oh one last thing, do people find them too harsh on longer journeys?

Its replacing my old diesel Punto mk2 which as served me well for 130k.

Thanks for any help.

Hi!

I would suggest you started negotiations at £8000, its probably worth about £8500 but best to start low!!

The Sporting has more power than the Eleganza, and also the 17" wheels.

Mines more than ok on long journeys, I manage a good 50mpg at 70mph also :)

And then theres the re-map

Really you think its only worth 8.5k? for a brand new (in terms of mileage) 58 plate mjet?

i'd be suprised if you got it for less than £9000 but if its been sat their that long they obv can't sell it so take em for everything they got, even tell them your not interested at the end as you've got a better price and your going next week to sort it out, they'll prob ring you back with even more off

Yep! Its technically used, and the engine is also due to be obsoleted. You can get a brand new 1.4 Tjet for less than £10k from the dealer, whats it priced up at?

10.8k they say they will go to 10k but no lower, thats the 1st stage I suspect there is more gains to be had however!

M-jet's retailed at at least a grand more than T-jets, so that's a pointless comparison. Now the M-jet is discontinued it seems to be depreciating slower, mines actually gained around £500 in the last 3 months according to webuyanycar.com...lol ;-)

I reckon between £9-9.5k is about right, I'd be suprised you getting it much less than that.

my just bought a pre reg one with dual c/c with all the trimmings it had 40 miles on the clock and he got it for 8750 and full tank of fuel and years tax so just haggle like a mad man

You can order a brand new mjet sporting from fiatsupasaver for £10295

http://www.fiatsupasaver.com/ItemDetail.aspx?mID=14

The only downside to this is that you could have a 6-8 week wait and they may also not be able to source one if that model is end of life.

Also, what colour is the car you're looking at.? I think the metalic colours are £300 plus when ordering new.

Thanks,
Rob.

what makes you think it would be harsh on long journeys? long journeys are its forte, they are ace

Hello mate,

Please advise if the MJET Sporting you are about to buy is the 3 or the 5 door version.

A friend of mine bought a Jeep Compass with 3,000 miles on the clock for £10.5k, asking price was £13.5k, brand new 9 months ago was £20k! Dealers seem quite ready to negotiate a deal these days…

The 1.9 MJET Sporting is currently UK only. The rest of Europe (LHD markets) already use the 1.6 MJETvariant. I do not expect the UK market to have the 1.6 engine anytime soon, but with Fiat you can never be too sure!

I have had the 1.9 MJET Sporting since June 06. It’s quite comfortable on the motorway, I find it a lot better than the Mk2 which was quite jiggly and rather tiresome on any trip over 100 miles long.

Economy is not a very strong point, although with a relatively careful right foot you should be able to achieve 50+ mpg on trips of about 50-100 miles, or close to 60mpg on trips over 100 miles long. Considering the price of the vehicle and its in-gear acceleration, I reckon the fuel consumption is very good.

Make sure your car has MP3 as standard, as I have read somewhere on the forum that some Grandes only featured a cd-player, non-MP3 compatible.

Your Grande should also have cruise control as standard.

Make sure that the vehicle is also a UK Sporting, there are some Sportings imported from Ireland with the 1.3 MJET engine, this variant has never featured in Fiat UK Grande Punto range. Are you buying from a Fiat dealer?

It is also to my understanding that Fiat UK offered a 5-year warranty on the GP series 2, make sure this is the case!

I had a lot of niggles with my MJET Sporting but the car always started, the engine has never let me down. I am sure that Fiat must have ironed out most of those issues, so expect a trouble-free motoring life!

Happy haggling!

I agree with the above, although I CANNOT manage to get mine to do 50MPG at 70mph Ive managed 300 miles at 60 - 65 and got 52mpg as soon as I get to 70 my average over the same journey was 41mpg, I do the trip often and when the car was younger it would do 50mpg at 80 :p

thats a different topic though

my M-Jet has been superb, only been back to the dealer for 2 services and I should be due a 3rd soon, paint chips easilly though is my only niggle

Apparently doesnt have the 5 year warranty, and its a 3 door one. It has cruise control. I will think about it this weekend then think about going back to haggle.

Has anyone driven both the tjet and the mjet? I can pick up a new tjet for 8.5k from fiatsupersaver but I really do like the lazy driving you can do with a diesel hence why I fancied the mjet. Its also a bit cheaper and I suspect 1.5k difference would buy a fair bit of petrol. I am also not that fussed that its now an obsolete engine, the 1.6 would be good but as you say they are not available.

I dont really care about how fast they are as long as its as reliable as my current Punto JTD I would be more than happy, plus they have a few extra gizmos to play with!

Put it this way, im looking at an orange 07 plate t-jet at £8995... but there is an 08 plate t-jet in grey for £9000... so im gonna turn round the chaps that have the orange one and say ive seen a newer one for a fiver more... then they will make offers... but get extras too... blag blag blag
