sorry for this...
I've just told him in Greek about BOV in diesel engines.
Ok, curry on...
well their basicly a normal bov with a switch added because a diesel doesn't have a throttle body which closes when you lift off causing a massive pressure build up which forces the spring up and opens a normal bov
a bov is actualy vacum operated. a feed taken from the inlet manifold which can tell there is a build up of pressure which in turn operates a valve which vents the air to atmosphere or re-circualtes.
Ive been getting the same in my 1.6 punto diesel recently. It normally has a little whistle when it spools but if I lift off around 1500 or slow my engine down fast by dipping clutch etc it makes a flutter like a wastegate. Now is this backpressure in the turbo creating the choppy sound or is it a wastegate? Hearing the noise at 1500rpm from just lifting off lead me to think wastegate but I didnt kno if the car had one or was just a recirculating bov. Thanks.
