Hi,

Bought my 56 GP last week and everything is great apart from a warning message I get saying 'check licence plate light'.

Upon looking at it the left of the two lights doesn't tend to come on when at first but if i tap (very gently) the plate it comes on, also just driving off it goes away before long (slight bump in the road doing the same as me tapping it i assume).

Just wondering how easy it is to take the light out and either change it or see if theres a loose fitting somewhere.

Its not a major problem, just a bit annoying really.

Thanks in advance

nice and easy.......

look at the Number plate light at one end there is a plastic clip that needs a thumb nail to bend it this unhooks that end and whilst applying pressure pull it downwards from that end,, then once out the other end just pulls out lower it down and clean all contacts and check condition of bulb

Cheers for the quick reply! I will have a look at that tomorrow.

Well I finally got around to having a look and the light and bulb itself 'looks' ok. Put the whole lot back in and still getting the same message and it didn't come on.
However a very very gentle tap on the plate makes the light come on. Would it be worth just getting a new light unit for that site?

Put a new bulb in, bulbs often fail like this, as the electricity passes through the filament of a broken bulb if tapped the filament can arc weld itself together, and obviously the lamp starts to work. As soon as the lamp is switched off the "weld" fails as the filament cools down.

Ok i will try this, do they stock them in Halfords? If not i will just order online

I got the kit in the end ... seems to be fixed now, a bugger to get out though. Used some long nosed pliers in the end.

Hi John, can i ask you, what made you change the whole unit instead of just the bubl?

Also stupid question but when is you license plate light meant to be on, during starting the engine, or just when you turn your electrics on? or is there a button to turn it on, as i think mine maybe gone and want to be sure im not just not turning it on lol

Hi Emmerson,

the license plate light should be ON with the "position" lights, no separate switch for it...

Regards, Bernie

"position" ligths is litteraly translated from french, not sure about the exact word in english (location ?)... Anyway, those are the smallest bulbs in the front lights and turn ON at the first step of the rotary switch.

Regards, Bernie
