Hi there

Whilst driving to work this morning my skydome shattered for no apparent reason (Grande Punto 1.4 T-Jet). The windscreen and rear window were frozen first thing, but I'd been driving for about ten minutes when it happened. Just a tremendous bang and more fresh air than I needed at that time of day !

I've contacted my dealer and I'm taking it there this evening to see if Fiat will consider a warranty claim. I'm just curious if anybody else has had this happen to them

From memory there were some dodgy ones, but can be due to body flexing and / or poor fitment.

Thankfully as soon as I heard the initial bang and saw the glass was shattered, I pulled the interior sunshade across which caught any splinters. Unfortunately when I got in it last night and closed the door, the whole lot caved in :(

Booked it into my local dealer who said that they had made a 'provisional enquiry' to Fiat and they wanted to send an engineer to take a look at it - they also were going to take some pictures last night (Point to note, if it happens to you take pictures asap, because when it all caves into the sunblind, the photo's won't prove anything!) I think this was to prove that it hadn't been hit by any debris or a flying stone etc

Waiting to hear this afternoon if they have a loan car available for me to use whilst its with them.

Re: Problems with the skydome - update

I heard from the dealer last night - at present the are saying that they can't cover it under the warranty as the assessor 'can't see how it could have happened' well neither can I, thats the whole point !

Had to register a call with Fiat customer services who will escalate the call and let me know whats happening in the next 24-48 hours - will keep you posted.

Well that sucks, fills all of us with Skydome's with much faith in Fiat! :(
