Hello,

I have a 2006 Grande Punto 1.3 M-Jet Dynamic 5 Door (6-Speed - 90BHP) with 22,000 Miles on the clock. I bought it privately for £4600 a couple of weeks ago.

Two days ago, I went over a speed bump in my work car park. I was doing a very slow speed. I heard a metalic cracking sound. A few moments later I saw a piece of metal fall from the car.
On investigation it appeared to be a chunk from a Suspension Coil of the Front Drivers side.

I took it to Research Fiat to be told even though it has warranty to July 2009, I may be liable for repair costs.

Does this sound correct??? If so how much should I expect to pay??

its probably because you are in the 3rd year of your warrantee.... only certain bits are covered as its "dealer warrantee"

why dont you phone fiat up directly and talk to them. if this hasnt happaned before they might want to look at your car and may even have your local dealer fix it for free.

I don't see why a coil would fail after that shorter period of time, even Stilo springs last longer ;). Hopefully they'll do the decent thing.

Both DTPnorfolk and I have had similar – mine is an 06 model, and both front coils have broken since I got it in August.

Both were replaced under warranty, no problems.

I have a problem that someone on here has diagnosed as a possible faulty spring,

I ordered my Eibachs 10 mins ago anyway

There is no way that a spring should break during service. I have seen porous springs (had holes in!) from a Mitsubishi Colt before now which nearly took out a tyre when they broke. If I were you I would be insistent that this could have caused an accident.
