lol ok, just checkin, shall have another look tomorrow... how would a pipe like that split?

is it possible the mixture of the cold weather we are having and the sudden heat from the engin causes cracks n splits

Right then

To Preserve T's sanity

if yo have a smell of fumes been drawn into your car..

locate this pipe

attachment.php

it runs from the left hand side near the oil filler cap and runs under the air box (which is secured by 2x 10mm headed bolts and the air intake lead pipe is held in a rubber grommet and just pulls out ( a drop of washing up liquid makes it easyer)

once the three points have been undone lift the air box upwards (it is pushed onto the throttle body )

take care as the hose which your looking to check is still attached ..

if its found to be leaking clean the hose with soap and water on a cloth and bind well in Duct tape (there is a potential risk that oil can leak from this and catch fire on the exhaust pipe where it runs under the engine to the back of the car) then see your dealer about getting a new one....

(happy now T ;) )

He could make it a Sticky, or put it on the Common faults/Recalls thread.....

But you just know no-one will ever bother looking there. PMSL :cry:

Yo peeps,

Anyone any experience of having to pay for this?? I seem to have no warranty/can't find paperwork so may have to pay with actual earth pounds.

Any info would be more than I have.

thanks

Yes T it is, though not the Fiat one. My dealer took up the 3rd year with some warranties2000 mob because the stupid woman who owned it before me didn't get it serviced on time or something. I have found the paperwork!:slayer:
So I will take it in and have them look at my brake squeel also, not sure if that's covered.
As it's not proper job Fiat warranty I thought I might need to pay for the work. Hopefully not though.

generally hoses/pipes not covered by 3rd year, however the vapour/breather pipe is only £8.16 and 2 minute job to fit(y)

Well mine has split too ( the familiar fuel/oil smell in cabin so well documented in this thread and others - thanks for the heads up !!! ) and is booked in this Friday for replacement. And as the car is May 06 registered - not covered in third year warranty. No matter - seems a cheap repair

It begs the question - are other rubber hoses under the GP bonnet prone to splitting? Is it worth getting them checked out at same time - I don't fancy a coolant leak/gush :)

I love my GP but she does her hardest to test that love sometimes .....

i clean the engine bay & seal and wax everything every 6k, just a little OCD i have, like keeping the car spic and span, and i use Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Care on all the pipes and hose's should make sure i never have this problem

Doing this probably won't stop the damage happening, it appears to me (just replaced pipe) that the damage is mechanical wear due to the air filter housing rubbing on top of the pipe.
The only way to check for this is to remove the airfilter housing.

Sorry to sound newbish here, but what is the thinner pipe at the back of the airbox for? Mine has split and my 1.2 has developed abit of a judder from the engine end of the exhaust when idling. When I taped up the pipe, the judder disappeared. Would this make sense for that pipe, or is this just a coincidence? Need to get round to replacing that pipe. No funes in my cabin though.

Had the fuel smell in my cabin as well. Thanks to the excellent photo I located the pipe and it was split on the underside. I have taped it up and will collect a replacement pipe later.
