Hey Guys,

Just a quick question, does anyone have any pictures on what the GP's (standard or sporting) look like with Roof Bars on?

I'm having trouble carrying my snowboarding gear around so think I need to go down this route to keep the inside of the car tidy!! I've seen these inflatable roof rails but will probably have more use for the fixed one's if I get some because I could get a mountain bike or 2 on them as well.

Also, does anyone know the cost of these?

Cheers!

Hi

Excuse the bike but they are standard Fiat roof bars, I think I paid about £65 for them from my local dealer

that's great cheers mate :)

are they quite easy/quick to fit and remove?

They are yes, the front bar is held in with a small bolt on the inside of the door, once that is tight a 13mm bolt is used to tension them, this is under a cover on the bar itself.
The rear bar is held on by using a 13mm bolt that just pulls the bar tight and is hooked between the top of the window and the body.

I can go from nothing to having the bike on within 15 minutes ish I would say

They are pretty sturdy and the bikes dont wobble round, just whistles a bit from the disturbed air going over the roof of the car

snowboarder hey ed? schnap! can i ask where in the Uk you are carrying snowboarding gear to and from? i kno its snowed alot last few days but still . . . lol

and yeah, back on topic, they are quite decent roof bars for the price!

That's great cheers mate! Nice to hear that they're bolted on because I know some cars are just clipped in to the holders which I wasn't too keen on!!!

Sounds perfect to me...will defo have to invest!

and they still have a retail price of just over £60 + Vat!!
lol expensive but money well spent I think in this situation!

lol yeah, not been doing it for that long but i'm not that bad tbf :slayer:

haha, I was hoping to go boarding around the park but I don't wanna trash my board and it's not really deep enough!!! It's just to get my board from my house to the snowdome in tamworth...it's not a long distance but it doesn't really fit inside the car too easily and it's going to damage the interior at this rate!!! Plus, it'll allow me to get a couple of mates boards on the roof if ever we decide to go away and drive there lol. Where do you board mate?

They certainly look it!!

I think thats the best bike rack ive ever seen.

Is it hard getting your bike up there? I know after doing a 30 mile ride I can hardly move doubt i could lift my bike.
It certainly looks good doesn't it!!! Wouldn't wanna be the one lifting it up there though!

It is a Thule Outride 561. Its ok, depends what bike you have and how the front wheel attaches, if its a qr then you drop it on and the bike will stand up on its own without having t tighten it up and if its 20mm then it pends on the forks. Fox will just sit on but if the forks have no cut out for the wheel to sit in it can be a bit of a bugger.

I can put an orange 224 and the sx trail on ok after being riding all day, you can stand on the sill if you open the door. I am quite tall as well. Its easy enough to do, easier than trying to reach in and get it in the car, cleaner too!

The bolts are also covered with a plate on the front which locks on from the back so once they are on no one can get them off.

They are pretty cheap for manufacturer bars too, one of my mates has an a3, the other a golf and they were both £150 for the same thing!!

You wont get on with the inflateable rails......you need rear doors to put the securing strap through..

Just a note with the Outland bike rack some fork manufacturers wont honorer your forks if the drop outs crack due to the lateral loading on the forks whilst up on the car roof..... However as im sure sandal is aware that the SX Trial is a "funny" shape and wont fit on a Thule Pro or free carrier.. (it really can be a case of buying a carrier to fit the bike.)

Tell me about it!! rear mounted carriers arent good as they tend to hold onto the glass on the back window and not only is the sx and odd shape but the tubes are even worse. I usually tend to strap it down, or if i have 2 mounted bungee them together to prevent them rocking around

i thought that about the inflatable rails but apparently you can pass both straps through the front door...one at the very front, one at the very rear of the door...wouldn't fancy risking it though with a snowboard that's quite long...

The bike rack is definately worth a look as well i'm thinking...do the roof bars come with any securing ropes or do I need to get these seperately?

How do you mean securing ropes? To secure the bike rack to the roof bars?

yeah just ropes in general to tie things down lol. Sometimes the roof rails come with a set of adjustable ties that can be used to strap things (like a snowboard) on to them and other times they don't so just wondered if you just got the rails for your £65 or if they threw in anything like that?
