I have a 07 Grande Punto Eleganza 5dr 1.4 8v and I am always cleaning the wheels of brake dust. After a day they are already showing loads of dust.

My sister has an 03 Clio 3dr and her wheels always look spotless so I thought it might be my driving style. But I have driven a VW Bora and that was excellent at keeping away the dust, so why is this??

Is it well known that Punto's give off loads of breakdust, because it's getting beyond a joke!! Thanks, I'm new by the way so dont fully get how to use everything yet -_-'

Hi and welcome to the forum. Mine is the same, i don't think it is down to driving style (certainly not in my case) just the pad material. My front discs and pads are due for replacement this month and i will be fitting decent aftermarket ones to try and reduce the amount of dust (and noise).;)

Yep lots of dust but they stop the car well and I am still on my original set of pads and discs after 41,000 miles so its not all bad really!

hey man welcome to the forum!

yeah there is quite alot with multispoke alloys its no joke but as Ffoxy said the car stops well its 5 star NCAP so it must be worth the cleaning hassle :D

noticed you have the rear mud flaps can you get a pic of the back of your car was looking into getting these for mine but was unsure..

You may find alot of the crap on your wheels is a combination of Brake dust, Road salt, and all the other rubbish, I have had alot of road salt on the wheels recently. Don't forget you will probably be braking harder under the current road conditions, so that will contribute as well.

:confused: drive with more care and brake more carefully and gently I would say surely... anybody else agree / disagree?

You can buy a product from turtle wax which is a wax for wheels, dust barrier or something like that. I have the same alloys cant say ive noticed the problem to much.

Sorry for the delayed reply and thanks for the welcome guys, even though someone has already submitted a picture of the rear flaps I will post a picture of mine tomorrow when I get a decent photo.

The only criticisms of the rear mudflaps (front ones are sound) is that the very top of them aren't bolted on it's just wedged in between the paintwork and the random bit of plastic at the rear of the rear wheel arch if thay makes sense. This reason alone can cause the mudflap to hang out at the tops if your motorway driving or heavy rain conditions which looks really silly and caused my left rear one to rip off. I decided to screw it on myself to secure it (which I was proud of myself for lol) and it looks total professional.

The break dust is worth living with for the stopping power alone, is it the more spokes you have the more dust you get built up??

Cheers

yes and no.

no because the same amount of brake dust will come off no matter what wheels you have.

yes because multispokes have a lot of surface area for the brake dust to cling to.

I put a few layers of wax on my wheels, and find it's much easier to clean them now than it was before (y)
