General Assetto Kit

you have had your m-jet a long time it must be coming up to 3 years is it not????why trow good money at it in this assetto way.why not buy a abarth or even a used 1 think 1 can be had for £11,500.i had done almost 60k miles in mine couldnt wait to get rid of it.loved the engine but the suspension was getting unbareably tiresome:(

the SS kit and the assetto kit work as such - when you order them (through the dealer) your chassie number is taken and is then matched with a kit in italy... if you havnt got an abarth they wont assign you a kit... not that a dealer would even try im sure.

the assetto kit is 2k i beleive as well

I would like an Abarth but in order to get one I would have to get finance which I have vowed never to use again. I am tempted to flog the MJET and save for a used TJET. I've been driving a 2.5 V6 Mazda for the last three months and going back to the tractor has not been pleasant. The thing is I like it to look at, just not to drive. It handles badly, has no feel and even less grip. I thought I may be able to get round this with that kit or after market parts.

The kit is £2.5k fitted and consists of lower, stiffer springs (-20mm compared to standard GP), drilled disks front and rear with uprated pads, and 18" wheels fitted with 215/40/18 Pirelli P Zero Nero tyres.

The disks and pads are for the Brembo brakes fitted to the AGP.

AFAIK you can't order the kit unless you have an Abarth and IMO the kit is poor value for money anyway if you already have an Abarth.

Why don't you just cost up the individual wheels, tyres and springs if you want to upgrade?

reckon in couple of years there'll be loads of abarth look-a-likes driving about, only seen one on the road so far!

First time ive ever seen it described like that, youve never driven a Stilo have you :p

I have actually but I was much younger and had little experience in the matter so I thought it drove ok. I thought the GP was a great car until I drove something that was properly planted and had good feel. I don't feel confident in my GP and therefore you can't enjoy a good country road in the same way. Although its been ages since I've been able to do that anyway!!

I had a 1.2 16v MK1 Punto Sporting which is by no means a great car but you could throw that at a bend and it would hardly roll and it would grip. I can't do the same in this car and I do think it is mainly to do with the stock suspention.

Id say that is more to do with weight than stock suspension. The Mjet is a heavy car, it carries probably 300kgs more than the mk1 and this will affect the dynamics. At the end of the day its a cheap family hatch first, and a sports car second. If you want a car thats more driver orientated, id suggest you bought a Porsche Boxster (y)

My critisism is not strictly aimed at the GP and more at modern cars. In order to satisfy certain demands cars are becoming too over-assisted. The GP's steering suffers because of the power steering. I agree the weight and a relatively high centre of gravity don't do the Gp any favours and all the required safety measures add weight too.

All my moaning is in vain anyway. In order for us to have Fiats and other mainstream cars, they need to be easy to drive for the Tesco's brigade.

I still think the GP is still the best in class as an overall product though.

I agree entirely. The Abarth does address some of your problems though (y)
