This has happened 2 days on the trot. Go to reverse car out in the morning and the rear drums seem to have seized/locked up so when I reverse out theres a thump before the car starts to move. 5500 miles and now this :bang::bang: ah the joys of owning a Fiat

mines always had a few niggles with the brakes, goes away after two mins of driving. I have a feeling its rust but no idea why as it stays on my drive overnight and first brake its a bit of scrape but it goes. Guessing you bought yours from gainmanor?

ah the joys of owning a Fiat

applies to most cars not just Fiats

I have a feeling its rust but no idea why as it stays on my drive overnight and first brake its a bit of scrape but it goes.

If it rains (well not if as its every f*cking day) and a few hours later I go to ford the font discs are bright orange, but the fiats are not :D

This has happened to mines recently, due to cold, rainy weather i suppose?.....nothing im particularly worried about.

Mine only does it the morning after washing the wheels. Bit of water getting in the drums i expect. Shoes sticking to the drums rather than siezing up. :)

This happened to my Grande Punto on return from a 2 week holiday and had to call AA to release - now know to leave handbrake off if leaving car for any length of time!
However, last night it happened again, had only left the car on drive for less than 24 hours and it was stuck solid. Luckily my neighbour was home and managed to get it going for me - a combination of hard accelerating backwards and forwards until it released with a large POP.
As car is less than 2 years old and still in warranty - is this something that can be fixed??? As a female often driving alone do not want to have this worry with a relatively new car...
Any hints or tips before I call the dealers tomorrow morning greatly appreciated! :)
Many thanks
Sharon

I had this again the other day. Wasn't releasing despite trying to rock the car back or forward. Released with a big hammer in the end :D
I had washed the car the day before - seems to be a problem in the cold/wet environment. My car is getting a service this week so will ask them to give the rear drums a good clean out.

I know the feeling. Mine were stuck on this morning. However I just drove without realising it and they freed up with a bit of a clunk.

So I can drive my car in the dry and have the brakes playing tunes (especially in reverse where I get a good old hum in C minor) or get rain like last night and not know whether the handbrake will let me go places in the morning! Never mind lol.

Just leave the car in 1st or reverse gear overnight with the handbrake off-simples!
IIRC the rear drum brakes are a GM unit anyway,so not just a Fiat issue.
If only every problem was as easily sorted!

All drum brakes work in exactly the same way so it's not just limited to Fiat this issue

+1 ^^^

Disks too. Brakes are brakes, not a lot to do with FIAT.

My rear disks have never locked up but then again I don't live in a cold miserable climate. Mine do make a whine in reverese though but not worth worrying about.

Just thought I'd let you know I took the car back to the dealers to get the brakes checked, and it turns out the handbrake cables are faulty and need replacing - luckily car still in warranty til the end of the month so all covered. Mechanic said he had had quite a few Puntos in with the same prob recently... so if its happening to you a lot, worth getting it checked out :)

Had mine in today. They adjusted alignment or something, greased some bits and cleaned out the drum. Fingers crossed.
Shame they messed up the service - story to come once I've had a chance to speak to the dealer on Monday.
