Ive got a 1.4 16v GPS and it seems to be drinking oil a bit, is this normal?

Im putting a litre of oil in for every 1500miles covered...

i believe upto 1L per 1000km is normal, so that seems ok.


you sure its not leaking it anywhere though? cos that is still quite alot, but my old 1.2 sporting used to drink about 1L every 30 miles

does sound quite high
my 1.2s only needed about half a litre in its 19k miles (other than changes at service time)

Seems to be common on these engines. I have a 2005 mk2b Punto Sporting 1.4 16v and it uses a similar amount of oil as yours. I've had it looked at and its all fine, good compression on all 4 pots, very little blow by and no leaks.....

If you've had your cambelt changed it may be an idea to check the locking tool plug(s) aren't leaking the rubber washers are a bit naff. Mine was and dripping onto the exhaust manifold (making it impossible to see were the leak was coming from).

The 1.6 stilo i used to own was quite thirsty. I asked the mechanic where i used to get it serviced, and was told that it's perfectly normal
