Abarth Turbo on T-jet 120hp

I can get a turbo from the Abarth version for a very good price and it seems like a good upgrade for my GP T-jet. Some posts here mention 160hp with the turbo alone, which should be enough.

I do think (judging from previous expreience) that the AF ratio should probably be corrected with a good re-map, so it wouldn't run lean. Am I right?

Re: Abarth Turbo on T-jet 120hp

i dont see how you can add 40bhp to the car by just changing the Turbo to an abarth turbo, if your getting the normal abarth turbo then that car only has 155 (stated) so to think you can get 160 from it surely is wrong???

also there different fitments arn't they? im sure iv read that in which case you'd have to re-do all the plumbing for the new turbo.

only way i can see you getting 160 bhp straight away by changing the turbo is by putting in the ss turbo, that ups the turbo from 1.3 to 1.5 bar (is it bar - cant remember) however im guessing u will be getting the standard abarth turbo from an old standard abarth thats had the SS kit fitted?

the other more cheaper way for you mate it to remap the thing.... punto matt has figures like abarth so its easier to do it like that.

Re: Abarth Turbo on T-jet 120hp

Information on this forum suggests that GSR put an Abarth turbo on the T-jet and it's a direct replacement. It's claimed to put out around 160hp without a re-map.
fiatforum.com/grande-punto/146856-gp-tuning-2.html

I'm interested in the ability of the standard ECU to compensate for this change. On some cars, for instance the new Mini you can change a bunch of things and the ECU sorts out the AF mix by itself (no remap needed).

I wonder what Oldschool has to say about this.

Re: Abarth Turbo on T-jet 120hp

it can run with the abarth turbo un-mapped. same fitments (different internals etc etc)

abarth runs 155bhp standard and i swear it goes up to 160 with the sport button engaged.

same turbo from the bravo 150 tjet.

warrenty is void, insurance will increase drastically.

Re: Abarth Turbo on T-jet 120hp

Do you have any info on internal differences between the 120 and 155 engines (pistons, rods, ...).

As far as I've heard and read the differences are: turbo, manifold, cams, injectors and software. But this info is not 100% proven, so I'd like some confirmation.

Re: Abarth Turbo on T-jet 120hp

According to eper, only differences i can see are cams, injectors, ecu, turbo, exhaust manifold, exhaust, filter and a bit of inlet pipework..

Rods, pistons, head, block, crank are all the same

Its not its the same as the Tjet turbo just a bit bigger. Manifold only changes along with internals when you go to SS spec.

Re: Abarth Turbo on T-jet 120hp

So when the warranty runs out I'll just pop on the Abarth turbo and take it on a rolling road to take proper wideband lambda measurements. Then we'll see about the adjustments needed.

Re: Abarth Turbo on T-jet 120hp

It cant be mapped on standard ECU yet but the ECU appears to make the neccesary adjustments when the abarth turbo is fitted without any mapping.

Re: Abarth Turbo on T-jet 120hp

Good price. Forget the warranty and DO IT. Im gonna do the same but i wasnt sure if the ECU would work without a map. But if you guys say it will work ok, well f**k it i might just order myself one this weekend. Prices for a new turbo from FIAT are actually only around 700.
