Right, always wanted to play with this when I had the Stilo, but never got round to it. Has anyone had any experience of using EOBD scanner tools on the GP? Im watching a USB to OBD 2 cable on eBay, and interested to know if anyone has had any great success with diagnostics and the GP? Thanks! :)

to be honest if a warning light came on I'd either take the car to the dealer or call the RAC out if it was undrivable.

Agree entirely, but sometimes its useful to see the fault codes yourself before the dealer or RAC presses the delete button ;) And could save some serious money with diagnostic costs in the long run, although it doesnt look like its possible to get the advanced functions without the Examiner :(

good point, nothing worse than AA/RAC deleting errors giving dealer nothing to go on:mad: oh & its the AA/RAC that break the clips on the covers:rolleyes: (check when the 'shiftly' put it back on!)

Adam,

Ive got one of these cables spare that I was going to stick on ebay, dont know if you are interested, try before you buy? Its an ELM327 v1.0 USB interface, the sort you see for sale on ebay with the silver case. You can read fault codes, live sensor data etc with it.

Works with stuff like PCMscan so you can do 0-60 timing etc. You can do more with it than the above but you need to know what messages to send and how to read the responses - and its only fiat that do unfortunately(and the examiner hardware).

Dan

where exactly is the connection port in the GP?
I've got an active (no blue an me). I looked in the glove box but I can't see any port - just the fuses.

Good points but lets not forget the KTS650 (well now 670) costs over £6k + subscriptions, ok for garage but not for normal punter;)

The et80 is ok but like all scanners it is very limited and like any diagnostic equipment should never be 100% relied upon. Be honest have you or anyone you know said "well not sure what it is but computer says airflow meter so start with one of them" ... thats lazy diagnostics but we know we can refer back to that when airflow meter dont fix the fault thus covering our arses!

very tru T14086, we have had that problem yeh, but the KTS 650 has the software to check for example the air flow metre, because when you've entered the data for the car your working on, you can refer to the infor that bosch have put on there, so you can check tolerences and voltages. does a wide range of things :D the difference between the kts 650 and kts 670 is only memory and a bit bigger hard drive :( so if you have a kts650 it aint worth changing and that was coming from a bosch man when i went on my courses :)

And our KTS cost 15 with the stand, case, printer, amps clamp and pin out kit

Right, a quick update on this:

I met with Dan last night and got myself an OBD to ELM interface with a copy of PCMScan. Had a quick go with it tonight, and it supports a fair amount of data from the ECU. I get data from the engine RPM sensor, fuel flow pressure and rates, MAF, intake temperature, EGR valve monitoring and throttle pedal postion to name a few :)

Looks like the GP is compatible with OBD software :)
