Thought I'd start a project thread for me car 'Sophie'

Main goal I have is to get the car running as smoothly and quietly as possible.

Also got a few practical mods lined up.

Soooo to start off my first topic is a 6 month trial of running my car on V-POWER.

So what am I expecting, certainly not an increase in torque or bhp.:spin: as the car isn't knock limited.

VPOWER has been proven to remove existing deposits from the engine and prevent the build-up of new ones so thats a definite plus and may indirectly lead to a very small power gain.

The other thing I'm looking for is smoothness particularly in the lower revs where the GP can be quite jerky.

First tank tonight takes me to about 60% VPOWER.

First impressions were that it was indeed much smoother in lower revs and gears, ever so slightly quieter too.

Runnign for 6 months to allow the cleaning agents to do their stuff and allow me to get to full concentration of VPOWER then give me time to properly evaluate it.(y)

Shouldn't take long:D Used to make my old metro way smoother couldn't believe the difference driving back tonight so much less jerky.

Oh and the still to come stuff.

  • Undertray
  • Xenon Upgrade Bulbs
  • Denso Racing Plugs Keyed To Injectors
  • Panel Filter
  • Quieter Tyres
  • Soundproofing
  • Sill Plates
  • Front Mudguards
  • Supersprint if they ever release one:(
Do you use VPOWER all the time Andy?

OK Guys, let me in on this.
What you are saying is that VPower makes your car run smoothly at lowish revs ????
Mines a tw*t in between 1700 - 2000 rpm, more like a Kangaroo than an engine.
I don't mind paying a few extra pence over the price of the supermarket petrol if its making that much of a difference.

would fuel addatives such as reddex and others do the same job as the v-power? i stuck some in my old punto (1.2 8v) and noticed a small difference, in gear acceleration seemed smoother and a bit more responsive.

his has been descussed before. it doesnt givethe car anymore power - if i can find the post i'll like it to you.

as for doing the same job as the shell v power.... theres no point a bottle will cost you like 10 quid? and will last you 4 tanks i think it is? .... 3x4 = 12 so by using the reddex (im sure its a tenner) your only saving 2 pound.... is there any point? just use the proper stuff no the additivies. plus for me if i had to drive to say halfords to get the reddex it would cost me the 2pound in fuel so ... theres really no point! ;)

Never thought of keeping to one diesel!.... I never use supermarket fuels as there not refined as much as BP,Shell, Esso etc etc... I always use Shell or Texaco... Should stick to Shell VPower bit more expensive, but worth it!

The major supermarkets source their fuel from the same Refinery's as Shell,Esso etc, I used to work at Shell Stanlow and all the fuel comes from the same storage tanks so I don't know where you got your information from, granted there is a big difference in the "V" fuels (more addatives to remove carbon deposits etc).

Redex will clean your engine but the cheaper petrol will just clog it back up again so not much point really, unless your going for it as part of a service of something.

Was out driving again this morning again I can't believe how smooth it is pulling away now and going up through the rev range, & I'm only at 60% VPOWER:eek:

I'm looking forward to next weeks fill up:D

Now you could have me converted Thomas (y) got a half a tank left of Sainsbury's fuel, when its on the red will try the VPOWER :D might solve the crappy gap I have between 1700-2000 RPM. I would never have thought a different brand of petrol would make that much of a difference to a modern engine ,
but what the heck, might as well give it a go

No there is a difference. I don't know what they do to it but I have tried tesco fuel once and the car had a harder time starting put in normal esso or shell and it went away after bout a tank load. In layman terms they probably water it down with something.

Yeah I use V power every now and then, definitely stops the jerking in 1st gear which is so annoying as it makes you look like a p****. I just clutch it in 1st now if I have to back off the throttle.

Although tried it a couple of weeks back and it didn't make much of a difference. Me thinks they didn't have V power in the pump but just regular shell in both

What do you mean 60% though?

Oh.. I always drain mine as much as poss to get all the goodness. I have bout 40 litres V power so 5 lts left of regular 95 lol. ;)

There shouldn't be crap at the bottom of the tank lol

I am considering switching to the Vpower diesel now that fuel prices are dropping. I used to use Vpower when I had my 20vt coupe but hadnt bothered with it since.

When Hs panda was running a bit rough he used the Vpower diesel and it did run smoother.

i always run on V power

might aswell make use of my map!!

theres a difference :)
