Re: would a remap be worth it on a 1.4 8v . "NEWBIE" pls help!!

Seriously!

If you keep saying this, and 'Use the search' in every thread that is getting created here then you are going to put people off posting! You post a lot of helpful advice for people and are a great resource for the forum; why ruin that good image by being elitist and trying to belittle anyone who posts a previously discussed issue.

Perhaps there are a few new members that have joined since the last thread was created, ever thought of that? They may want to offer new advice that cannot be found in the 'Search Results'. Not to mention that the original question in this thread is answered by giving an opinion i.e. there is no right or wrong answer and therefore a discussion should be allowed to develop, regardless of what threads have gone before it.

Can I just ask, what is the big problem with creating a new thread on the same subject: what harm is it doing? There is only so many areas you can cover in relation to the Grande Punto before you start repeating things. Going by your logic, we shouldn't allow any more threads on Remaps, Vinyls, Leather Interior, New Alloys, Suspension etc. as these have all been previously discussed. So what new threads do we make? What is left to talk about without us being given hassle?

Do you want to kill this forum? I know it's one of the reasons I stopped posting here with as much frequency, still love my Grande as much as I did, just hate the fact I have to read the same thing being posted in every thread - just let a discussion take place!

I await your reply. Or maybe I should 'Do a search' and see if my question has been previously asked!

I agree with this 100%, sometimes the maybe a thread based on the same topic but not always relevant to your question and you may not find the answer your looking for...having been a member of serveral car forums i have to say this is the worst for the problem in hand.
More often than not i've seen threads with some hostile response about "use the search" rather than helpfull advice.

Re: would a remap be worth it on a 1.4 8v . "NEWBIE" pls help!!

Perhaps the people who agree with common forum etiquette are following that same etiquette.
Have a search of the web people. The best most helpful forums are not the ones where anything is allowed to happen.
Whats going to be more helpful to a noob. search results on remap being 10 each thread with an average of 30-40 posts each, or search results of 90-100 each with 30-40 posts only most of them going over the exact same thing over and over and over again?

Re: would a remap be worth it on a 1.4 8v . "NEWBIE" pls help!!

I did a search once for "loose seat" got loads of hits for a Cupra Splitter:bang:
nay good for me GP problem. The search is good for some things but its not accurate enough.

would be more acurate if the threads didn't get trashed with people moaning about off topic stuff ;)

Re: would a remap be worth it on a 1.4 8v . "NEWBIE" pls help!!

moved all the stuff here because belive it or not if you argue in a new persons thread, they think its all their fault and dont come back

LOL! Thats rich! Then dont scream at them "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON!!!" and they might come back!! Anyway like we have already discussed whats the harm in asking the same question twice or more times? It comes up with different debates everytime and different answers. and if you post in an old topic you get shouted at. you cant win. Mods scaring off all new users IMO

Re: would a remap be worth it on a 1.4 8v . "NEWBIE" pls help!!

I totally agree Beany, these moderators would have pish all to do if there were not so many repeated threads. Besides, there may be new infomation found since the last thread was made, so the new thread may bring more knowledge to light.

however a fully researched 1st post allows you to move on to that new knowledge without covering all the old ground every time
just search for a turbo thread in the cento section to get an idea ;)

Re: would a remap be worth it on a 1.4 8v . "NEWBIE" pls help!!

Poor New guy has been shouted at and now his thread name has been changed. He deffo aint coming back. tut tut.

Wrong. I am a PS Helper on TheStudentRoom the largest and most successful forum for students in the whole of the UK 1. However, I do not feel the need to be elitist and simply tell new users to use the search, I instead help them in the fields which I can, such as Law and ICT and allow other users to help them if I cannot. You will not find any moderator on that site asking any member to use the search and leaving it at that. They provide additional help and maybe mention the search at the end for further clarification or second opinion. The same recurring themes and topics raise their head again and again and they are answered quickly and efficiently with no bitching and everyone is happy.

I have yet to see anyone on this site who is not a mod agree with me.

FAO Dave:

Please DO NOT skew this argument in order to turn normal users against me, my issue isn't anything to do with a 'debate' on whether to use the search. You very well know it isn't. My issue has been previously mentioned many times by myself. It is getting screamed at to use it and not being offered any additional help that is my problem! It is a great feature to use as an additional tool to finding the answer - but being told to stop posting new topics and instead use the search alone is idiotic. I suggest you rename this title and stop being sneaky.

I think at the end of the day it comes down to this

There is no point constanly telling people to use the search button/read the manual because repeat topics arent going to go away!

There is no point telling people to stop telling people off becuase they used the search button because they too will continue to do it.

Re: would a remap be worth it on a 1.4 8v . "NEWBIE" pls help!!

at the end of the day it doesnt matter if it a repeat topic, not in the slightest, id rather refresh the page and see a new repeat thread and answer it and join in rather than refresh the page and see nothing at all which is what will happen if you guys get your way.

Wrong giberrish gibberish gibberish bibberish.
Yeah really good point you made there.

The larger the forum the less need there is to post a new thread. Take the Ubuntu forum I'm a member of. Been there 6 months it has helped me immensely yet my post count is still 0. Why? Because search is my friend.

Custard ofcourse your not allowed an opinion. Why? Because it doesn't agree with Stripes attitude that more of the same old tired stuff over and over again is good.

Stop avoiding the question! Why did you change the title into something which gives the appearance that I am against using the search feature.

Answer this simple question, was T's original post beneficial? Yes, his original post: these are ones I am taking issue with nothing else. Stop trying to cover up what I am saying by making it seem like I am apposed to something I am not.

Re: would a remap be worth it on a 1.4 8v . "NEWBIE" pls help!!

I disagree with you stripes. There isnt anything wrong with telling people to search if they are asking a question that has been covered plenty of times before as it just gets boring saying the same stuff again. If they need clarification on what they want to know then they can bring an older thread up no problem. Only times people get jumped on for bringing up an old thread is when they post a pointless reply by saying something like " yeah i agree with that". If there are loads of repeat threads clogging up the forum it makes it harder for the people to fine the information they are looking for.

Also id much prefer to refresh and see nothing new than refresh and see a load of threads that have already been made before covering the same subject.

at the end of the day telling a n00b about the search funcion and giving a link to it may help them find the answer quick, when a real life person is not on the forum to do so
