Right, I finally picked up the car this evening after numerous delays.

Got the car half a mile down the road and as I braked, a warning light came on followed by "Hill holder unavailable" and "ESP unavailable".

I'm sure this is related to the "switch" that was broken in the first place and needed replacing.

I've got to take it back to the dealers first thing tomorrow, but does anyone on here actually know this problem and the solution? If I can givevthe dealers some pointers it may help them fix it.

Apart from that, the car is great!

We had a members car from here in today and traced the fault to a faulty brake light switch on the pedal.

The switch is on back order at Fiat though.

Dunno if that helps!

Thanks Chris,

Sounds like the exact switch that has already been replaced. A bit of a coincedence that the new one has broken already?

Could it be a dodgy batch of those switches?

This is the first I have come across. Its a bloody big switch and is blue and brown in colour, Not one I had ever come across before.

Strangely enough they are really cheap, under a fiver (not that it matters to you)

I had the exact same thing tonight.. strange..
I am a Fiat/Alfa parts man though however and i knew the technician that did my pdi.. turns out the clutch switch was a bit dodgy but he thought he rectified it..
Its all under warranty anyway.. Shall get it checked over in the morning well im in work for the morning.

It's doing my head in already. Just taken the missus for a ride (in the car!) and the light didn't come on the whole time. I'm still going to take it in tomorrow, but knowing my luck the light won't come on and the computer will say nothing is wrong.

code will still be logged, sounds as if adjustment is all that is required.

I called in to work after it came on and asked if it was anything serious.. apparently it's common.. but seems to be ok now..

had this problem in work with the big blue/brown switch. seemed after i removed the fauly one and basically played with it consantley i.e, pushing the button in and out.the fault didnt re-occur.

but theres wo different brake switches used. the blue.brown one and a small black one.

There are 2 switches, the brwn/blue is for models with hill hold where as the black one is for early models I believe

yer its on the Grandes mate.

the switchs dont depen on hill holder etc

had a series 2 1.3 multijt in with hill holder etc blue/brown switch, that had the fault.

went to swp it with the switch out of my series 2 with hill holder etc and mine had the black switch.

I have not had my car long at all and its already been in for warranty work. Something similar actually, it was the same warnings along with 'check engine'. I took it there and they did it under the 3rd year warranty. Im sure they mentioned a pedometer or a pedalometer or something-I was not that interested as long as it got fixed, which it was within a day. I just hope its not a sign of things to come. :)

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who gave me advice in this thread. I don't think I mentioned earlier, but I copied all the useful posts into a document, printed it and took it with me to the dealers this morning.

I told the sales guy that I had some information on a piece of paper which may be useful to the technician, which I left on the dashboard.

Well, after driving home in the courtesy car and giving up hope for the weekend, I got a call at 12:50 this afternoon from my salesman...

After 5 hours of the tech trying to figure out what was wrong with my car, he decided to look at my piece of paper. Oliver (that's what I've named my GP) was fixed within half an hour and I drove back to the dealers and picked him up. So far, so good. The warning light has not appeared.

The salesman didn't really know what they did to fix the problem, but it seems like it was something to do with calibrating the switch.

So, this afternoon Oliver has had a bath and is now tucked up in the garage ready for a polish and a layer of Dodo Juice Supernatural tomorrow!

if i remember correctly theres two setting for the push rod on the switch itself mate. he more than likely set it at both and wacked the examiner on and deleted the errors.

shouldnt re-appear now tho.
