If they had tried a little harder, they could of got it under 120g/km and given you cheap road tax aswell.

What's the betting that in 6 months time, they'll offer an eco model that has this and all the sheep will part ex their 6 month old ones for a new one, just so they can get cheaper road tax.

Well it's the same engine as used in the Mito - and they offer a sub-120g/km version of that, but with obviously reduced performance, so I'd assume they'll offer that in the GP too.

Its a step in the right direction but it will need be quite as fast as the 1.9 and you will not be able to get a huge amount of power out of it after a remap. Bit worried about the price have to keep it at about the same as the old 1.9 or it wont sell.

The sub 120g/km Mito is a 1.3 JTD at 119g/km. The only 1.6 offered is 126g/km.

Had a look at a pre-production Mito the other day - nice looking vehicle. Seeing as the 1.6 Punto is unlikely to be on the roads before Easter I think I might go for a Mito instead - official launch date 24th January.

Bit lazy to not work on losing the last 6gm of CO2.(n)

8V FTW or at least for home mechanics makes timing belt changes much easier:D

If only it was that easy... you can't have low emissions and high performance, though they're trying their best.

The Bravo 1.6 ECO (with DPF, low resistance tyres, etc) has CO2 of only 119g/km, so it is possible, but the power is reduced to 105bhp rather than 120.

And BTW, there's only a single cam pulley to worry about- so it's no different to doing a cambelt on an 8v. ;)

I agree wholeheartedly! One reason I sold mine was the chronic vibration thru' steering wheel and pedals.

There must of been something wrong with it if it was 'chronic'. There are far too many good things about the car to worry about a little rumble through the fingertips ;)

I think he mean't at idle tbh.

Yes, I did mean at idle. My previous GP with the 1.3 MJ90 engine was much more refined in many respects to the 1.9 8V. But I have to admit that the 1.9 MJ was much more ready and willing!

Well, I know enough about cars to know there was nothing at all wrong with mine. However, it had what I consider to be unpleasant levels of vibration through the steering wheel and pedals. I agree there are many good points about the car and I hope the buyer of mine enjoys his GP experience more than I did.

Tried slackening the engine/gearbox mountings then retightening them?

If the engine isn't sitting 100% square it puts the rubber mounts under tension which transmits more noise/vibration through the vehicle. ;)

Not sure if this has already been posted anywhere (apologies if it has) but Fiat announced last week* that it will now be January before orders can be placed for the new 1.6 Sporting.

* I would have posted this last week, but I forgot!

You're having a laugh! If the manufacturers can't install the engine properly in a new car then it isn't up to the customer to sort it out! I didn't dare take the car back to the dealer after the trouble I had with my first GP. No, I just sold mine at a massive loss after 7 months and bought something a bit more refined. Hopefully, for you Fiatheads, the new 1.6 will be a smoother performer.

I dont think Danny ment you do it but as a general suggestion to the garage...obviously he is unaware you dont own a GP anymore.

I dont understand if you had such a bad experience and have no regrets selling the fiat, why you are still here in GP section:confused:

Cos T, he is probably as mad as me. I hate my GPS but I am still fascinated by it. This car has the potential to be a great car. But.....it is assembled by God knows who, and when needs fixed...God help us.

In the last 10 years I have had:

Punto Mk I "1.1 S" 55 BHP
Punto Mk I "1.4 GT" 136 BHP
Punto Mk II "1.2 16V Sporting 80BHP"
GP "1.3 MJ 90"
GP "1.9D Sporting 130"

In the 60's and 70's my mother had:

600D (petrol, 767cc 4 cyl)
500F (petrol 2 cyl)
126 "Black - Special edition"

My pre-GP experiences were memorable and pleasant.

My first GP, the MJ90 was excellent. I loved it - and still do - but the reliability was bad. My Sporting was reliable but it had weaknesses which I have shared on this site - only to find that not all agree with me! I think I have contributed balanced posts on the GP.

Fiat is in my blood and I haven't ruled out owning another. I was just passing by....

I merely mentioned it as it's an obvious thing to check regarding vibration from the engine into the passenger compartment. Your post-

Well, I know enough about cars to know there was nothing at all wrong with mine...

...suggested to me that you worked on your own vehicle(s) or were in the trade at some point, and that the car was out of warranty or you were using a non-Fiat garage for repairs. Sorry for assuming things and trying to be helpful.

The puzzling thing is, if there was definately nothing wrong with it... how come it's not a common complaint?

Anyway, we're strolling waaaayy off topic. Are we all going to keep moaning the 1.6 is going to be underpowered (standard and remapped) without anyone being able to actually drive one yet? lol

Dont have to justify to me or anyone why your here, just aslong as you respect the forum rules (as you always have done) and respect the fact others still love their GP's then your always more than welcome here. Anyway I now how boring the volvo forums are, I was reading the 'ford own volvo' thread recently.

So what colour 500 you getting;)
