Technical New brake disks and pads?

My wifes Punto Sport has done 33 Kms & when I serviced it last at 30Kms the
front pads were 50% I thought that was very good brake wear. The race car also a GP Sport Diesel brakes are 228 mm front Disc's & 4 spot AP's I am geting very good wear rates & almost efortless braking over the Standard prodution brakes.

Best Regards Phil

yes i do work for fiat.

and do you honestly think that discs would never need changing?

and at the end of the day, if i tell a customer that there padsand discs need changing, its for there safety. im not in it to make fiat money, they make enoughoff of me as it is.

if you dont think they need changing. find the limits for the discs and measure them. and if there within the limits, dont bother.

and like i said, if you dont want it done, dont get it done. no need to come on here and whine about prices when your taking it to a main dealer. what do you expect?

So how many discs have you changed on a GP? Especially with 27,500 miles on. They haven't even fixed the list of 4 things I asked them to do. They've done the recall, and the work they obviously wanted money for, nothing else. And my matts arent even in it anymore........And they got it back to "polish out" the scratches they left all over the bumper, it looks like they gave a child a perminante marker and said paint them white lines.

Never need changing? I've heard from a fair few people car with 100,000+ on havent needed new discs. So in that case, why are Fiat using inferior materials.

WHy cant I whine on here? If you didnt work for fiat you wouldnt be standing up for them. Its wierd how everyone has a problem with main dealers. Do you get special training in Italy?

Yes, gets on my wick a bit how defensive some Fiat employees get. I have worked for the NHS for hundreds of years and I certainly would not feel obliged to defend the NHS just cos I work for it. Surely we should be able to express opinions without the fear of rebuke from a Fiat employee whose dummy may have fallen from his/her pram.

Consider this.....
If next week your front brakes developed a problem that resulted in a serious accident you would be back at the dealers demanding to know why they didnt check them while they were working on the car and tell you about any potential problems. Lets go a step further......if someone was killed as a result of your brakes being dodgy your dealer could be judged liable in part if they were aware of a potential problem and didnt tell you. In telling you they think there is an issue with your discs they have passed the buck and covered their arse so if something happens you are on your own now and cant blame them in the slightest.

I cant see what your problem is, all they have done is tell you, you dont have to have them replaced , its your choice at the end of the day.

As an edit.....
last time I was at the dealers they told me there was a nail in the tyre, I didnt know about it and as far as I am concerned they did me a favour.

Yeah I dont dispute that arguement. But you only send your car in for the work you want doing. Services, etc are to find the problems. I still stick to my guns and say they use it as an exercise to gain revenue

Only if **YOU** choose to have the work done.

YOU, includes all the helpless old people you see driving GP's.....who dont know anything else. The car is under my mams name, so it will have had her DOB etc.....

Even though I'm ranting, I did get 35% of the £310. Its just the principal of the matter

I think been fair all garages play on the Naivety and lack of Knowledge they are in business and try to drum up work....

Then again if they didn't tell you you'd be accusing them of negligence as they have signs offering their free health check...

and not everyone uses their car the same amount/ has the same driving habit so what might last one person till the next service might not someone else...

I had a lovely letter this weekend from my dealer offering a "winter safety check" for the princely sum of £19.99

reading the list

things like

"check screen wash level"

"Check windscreen washer and adjust as required"

"Check power steering fluid"

"check wiper blade condition"

"check the operation of external lights"

"check brake fluid level"

"check oil level"

Fair enough the checking of antifreeze requires a Hydrometer and checking shocks for leaks but most of the checks fall into what i'd think should be weekly checks in any case...
