May be an erroneous alarm but dont start there, as said above check oil levels. To be honest I would have stopped where possible rather than drive on .... Is the car due a service? Could be a blocked oil filter or oil gallery causing a lack of lubricant flow. Check the basics first, correct the level if low with the right oil and see what the car says.

I've had my Punto for just over a week now and I have had 2 warnings,
one for Check Engine
and the other for Expansion tank level high...
Warnings come with the GP and Italian Electrics me thinks. BUT, I would still get the dealer to check it out. Mine needs a new coil and I have only done just over 4000 miles.

thanks will check when i go on lunch may give the dealer a call as the first service was only done 4000 miles ago. Have since turned the car back on and the message didnt appear.

DO NOT drive it without checking the oil level first. If you drive it with little or no oil the engine will cease and it will NOT be under warranty if you ignored the warning messages.

Next cometh the tapping conrod of death:p

Other one could be a faulty oil pressure sensor, I had that on my old punto, some sod snapped it off changing the timing belt.

Just out of interest how often do you check your oil, new engines need checking more regularly as they burn more oil.

I know the manuals say once a month but I still go with weekly for peace fo mind, only takes 30 seconds.
