Turns out after dropping the engine from the range Fiat UK centrally ordered 800 for some sort of Fleet deal that didn't go through, so they now have them all stock-piled to sell.

Coming soon to a Car Supermarket near you I would guess!

For some reason, a lot of reviews states that the 1.4 (8v) engine seemed pointless and that the 1.2 was actually a better alternative

That was when the 1.2 and 1.4 were readily available and the 1.4 cost more - it was often said the small performance gain wasn't worth the extra price.

Trust me, you don't want a 1.2 or a 1.4 8v.

Mine is a 1.2 8v...

It's terrible.

mines aint bad.. just slow.. but no problems what so ever engine wise.. buts thats cos i NEVER fleece it lol.. aint had her over 80

Whats so bad about yours?

I have a 1.2 8v and all things considering, it really isnt that 'slow'. Try driving the 1.0 new corsa if you want slow, thats hitting 60 in 17+ seconds.

I've driven much faster cars, and cannot call the 1.2 underpowered for an entry level engine

I maxed mine once to 100mph, not for long. Was quite impressed, car still managed to stay reasonably refined and didnt feel dangerous at that speed.

Haven't and aren't going to do those speeds in this car again though.

Its not that its not slow, its just not fast. Its just does what it needs too, to keep up with everything else normally without going past 4k rpm.

The thing that pisses my off though is going onto dual carriage-ways after roundabouts coming from 20mph and having no power and waiting ages to get to 70 going through 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Sucks!

I spose it did, but didnt feel like it. I drove a 1.9 M-jet today and that is however, sh*tting fast. My next car will be an M-jet (sorry T-Jet'ers)

That said, I got back into my 1.2 after driving the 1.9 and it still didnt feel "slow". Just taken it up and down the local dual carriage way and its honestly fine. cracking engine if you ask me. I'd really love to tune the thing to the '120bhp fire limit' that many keep talking about.

Would be great to have a 1.2 tuned to kick out that kind of power. That said, I have no intention of doing so.

I Agree For what it is its a great little engine that is well proven and has served Fiat well. Shame its been binned now in the GP. (still in the 500/Panda and the new KA!!)
