Hey guys,

Well it looks like my recently remapped (185.5hp) GPS mjet needs a new clutch as it's started to slip (cheers Dave!). :bang:

So I just wondered whether you guys could recommend any uprated performance clutches? Seems pointless putting another standard one on now I've got the power, whatcha reckon?...

Had it 'mapped at the last FF RR day at Red Dot a few weeks ago!!
Couldn't of done more than 1500 miles since!!
I don't drive like a c**t either. :(
Well gutted innit.

...just wanna add that I'm not blamin' the 'map/Red Dot in ANY way. Guess it must've just been on the way out and the 'map has highlighted the problem.
Still don't make me feel any better though!

Sorry to hear it Po, it was only like a month ago we were at red dot. Must have been an underlying problem that has just been accellerated by the map...hope it isn't too costly to fit a new clutch. Had seen your posts in the RR thread but hadn't had time to post back!

Yeah mate, that's what I was thinkin'... Like I said, it's not like i drive like a knob, so guess it's just one of those things...
Got a quote yesterday - £259 fitted. It's booked in for this Friday(7th), just hope it's fine 'til then!

How's yours runnin'? Ok I hope...

You didn't seem like the sort to drive like a total knob when I met u which was why I reckoned the problem must have already been there. £259 fitted is not a bad price at all...think I payed about that for my old Mk2 Sporting when it had a new clutch.

Mine is running nicely, went back a week later and had the map tweaked to stop it fuelling quite as much and drives really good now. Had some b*stard scratch my bonnet to buggery the other week which will probs cost as much as your clutch to put right!! As you say though, one of those things.

Were you guys at the Sept FF RR day? I was, my car has 37,000 on the clock now, 5,000 done since my re-map not a hint of slip or judder and TBH I hope I never have to have a clutch, never have before in ANY car I had from new and they all did 70,000 miles each, the Pug 407 I had did 128,000 on its original clutch.

Is that cost to replace the clutch just for the clutch and are you gonna ask them to test your Dual Mass Flywheel? Would be a good move IMO...

Well... that's me financially ruined!! :bang::bang::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Just had a call from the garage and was told my flywheel is indeed "knackared"!!!:cry:

There's too much movement in EVERY direction on the flywheel apparently!! PROPER FOOKED!!... That's another £350 on top of the clutch. :bang::bang::bang:

Have to say that I'm more than a little disappointed to say the least. A new clutch and flywheel on a car that's just over 2 years old and covered only 22k is fookin' **** if you ask me.
I've never had to replace a clutch on any of my previous motors and this isn't an easy pill to swallow...

Thats grim... will Fiat contribute at all or are they saying its harsh treatment?
(I recall it was a hire / loan car) Damn sorry dude...

Cheers Ffoxy...

They've said as "time's is 'ard..." and "every little helps..." that they'll knock 10% off. Better than nowt I suppose...
I guess it's just one of those things (that I could very much do without!!(n))

Won't get the car back until tomorrow now... Suppose I better go figure out how I'm gonna pay for it!... :(

Did you get any quotes from an independent garage as the Warranty is obv expired or doesnt cover it? Its a route I am leaning more and more towards and independents do undercut Dealers labour charge wise by quite a substantial amount.... The "times is 'ard" thing cuts both ways bud... Good luck my fingers are well and truly x'd....:(

Sorry Ffoxy, should have made it clear - I've gone to an Independent.
My local Fiat Dealer is pretty useless (no surprise there then) and I begrudge payin' their extortionate rates.

The clutch is only covered by a 1 year warranty from new and that has long passed, so they put it down to "general wear an' tear"... which basically means me gotta pay!! (n)

Unfortunately things have now taken a turn for the worse...
The original clutch they ordered in doesn't fit so they've gotta get a special order made direct from Fiat because it's one of the first times this has happened apparently!...
Whilst speaking to the Fiat bods they also recommended that an Hydraulic thingummy (sorry, cant remember what they said!) will also need replacing...
Now because these parts have to come direct from Fiat nothing can be done on the price of them discount-wise...

The car is still in the garage and wont be ready until Wednesday now... :bang:

...And when it is finally ready I'll be looking at a bill of... £970.00!!!:(:cry:

PROPER GUTTED!

...It's not all bad news though - The boys at the garage absolutely love my car, they think it's awesome!!
Yeah, that made me feel loads better when they told me that!! :shakehead:

Jesus mate thats godawful.... looks like my GPS has to go in March then for a petrol car... Swift 1.5 or a Colt CZT allthough no cars have cheap repairs these days... maybe a good 'ole Practical Classic should be looked for... something I can do ALL jobs myself on..:(

I'm just totally p*ssed by the fact that it's only 2 years old and needs all this doing to it.
I thought I was buying a pretty bullet-proof little motor mechanical wise, (according to the reviews/write-ups) and would have a few of years of (relatively) trouble-free motoring (bar the bodywork/trim falling apart!:p)... No such luck!
I guess it must have just been ragged to within an inch of its life by the previous owner/test pilots...

Unfortunately I've got to hold onto this for a couple of years yet so I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet... Sod it, it's only money... Yeah right!! :(
