I've noticed an oily deposit around the turbo inlet pipe (the pipe coming from the air-box to the turbo). it starts at the turbo (turbos clean and no sign of smoke after a journey) and runs about 5cm along the pipe.

The car still drives OK , still pulls normally and still getting the same mpg. it does have a flat spot at around 2k under medium load. Are these the signs of a failing turbo?

that flat spot ur on about ... does it happen all the time or just every now and then? ... its happened to me quite a few times as well... usually happens in about 3rd gear around 2000rmp

yer its not all the time just under certain loan conditions. happens more when i have two people in the car and driving slowly

Mines just been in the garage to have other things looked at (had a subaru impreza courtesy car) I asked about exactly what you mention the oily deposit round the turbo. Told this is completely normal nothing to worry about. Technician took the car for a spin and he said everything is fine. Mines an 07 to. This is a Fiat dealer that is also a Subaru dealer, and seeing how well they do in JD power I should hope he is correct, I cant see why he wouldnt they were solely a Fiat dealer for the past 30 years.

hmmmm o dear ... hope this aint a sign of a failing turbo :S.... this happens to me... doesnt hapen if im acceletrating fast but if im accelerating slowly then occasionally it does this :s

well thats good news .... that little flat spot under slower acceleration still worries me when it happens tho :S

mines been mapped tho :(, well I'm off to fiat tomorrow to get a new bulb holder so I'll get them to have a look then

Hope it's nothing. Mine has started to Flat spot like that too. Had the 1st service done last week and according to dealer they didn't find anything. Was just told to keep an eye on it....

September 2007 so yeh 57 plate. I wonder if you can use the chassis number to find out the build date of the car?

i didnt want to say anything initially as i know there is alot scare mongering, with the so called dodgy turbos, though fiat have not confirmed this and remap slagging etc.. but when i was speaking to puntokris when he had problems with his turbo, he described oil deposits around the turbo inlet and lite smoke coming up from the back of the engine as the first signs.. not sure how he got on with getting it replaced before he jumped ship?

You got any pictures mate out of intrest... might help others so they can see! I know i keep a good eye oil on my oil, turbo and coolant  ahh, the joys of owning a fiat :D lol

Mines an 06 plate, are they known for turbo issues?

its a fiat!.... there known to have MANY issues!!! but isnt it the fun of owning one! ;)

well fiat suspect a failing turbo (n)

however on a more serious note.... if fiat suspect its a failing turbo i might have to go get it checked out.... dont want it going a year down the line with no warrantee....

o and yea mate if u got some pics so i can compare my turbo with yours then that'd help a lot :)
