Hi guys,

I bought my 1.2 in new orleans blue about a week ago, and it's been great so far. I drive mostly in the mad rush of London, but I have to go up the M1 on Saturday - my question is, will it survive? On the hills and the inclines, will the 1.2 be able to cope at 70mph?

just done 500 miles up & down the M6 plus hilly country roads in Scotland no problem, smooth & comftable at 70mph.

Perfectly fine at 70mph-as long as you dont go much faster. At 70mph there is 3500 revs on the clock. I drove from Stockport to Torquay last month (around 250 miles) stayed at 70mph and i used a fraction over half a tank which i was chuffed at!!!!(y) First long journey i have done in my GP. i was expecting the engine to be making a racket at 70mph but u didnt really hear it!!

for the last year I've been doing a 25 mile commute on mostly 70mph roads. Still average 45+ mph so as long as you don't speed it's fine fuel wise. If you are on hill be prepared to drop to 4th if you are going less than 55 and it'll be fine.

Thanks for the replies guys, i appreciate it.

I normally drive about 75/80 to be honest.

Cheers again.

By the way, what a car - been getting a few looks, maybe partly due to the 58 plate, but still... i love the shape of the front and the back, but i'm still trying to work out which looks better. But anyway, pleased to be part of the Fiat Grande Punto owners club!

They're brilliant cars! welcome to the club and glad you're pleased with your new motor!

Let's hope you have many miles of trouble free and happy motoring! :D

Same. So you will be looking at around 4000 rpm then which does seem quite high but I think it can take it well and I don't like over reving my cars aswell.

Its not the plate its the car, its the same for me. Oh and I prefer the front over the back. :)

60-mile round trip to Uni twice a week in my 1.2 with 17's and a loud exhaust, and lowered 40mm = Not great. (n)

I'm sure standard the car is fine, but Mine is sitting at 3,500 at 70, drinks the petrol.. I can get 45+ if I sit at 60 if I sit at 70, I get 36 TOPS! Massive difference =(

Plus my exhaust at 3/4,000 rpm annoys me as you just want to give the car another gear as it sounds at 70mph as if it needs it -- but you can't!
