General My New Abarth

Yeah im counting that!! Cheapest Abarth purchased so far in the UK - £13,458.30 + Optional Extras! :D

Dealer phoned me today and offered me my Car already in the UK but with Skydome instead of Climate control and said they would cover the cost of the Skydome!! Unfortunately the Skydome doesnt do anything for me and id rather enjoy the dual zone climate control so i declined this kind offer!

Chris

I wasn't bothered about the Skydome either. As I have said elsewhere, I was concerned about the shell stiffness with the dome.

I've hardly used the air-con, but not having climate is my only regret - it looks better definitely. That said I love the leather seats and I didn't want to wait for a another car. I needed to replace two cars fairly quickly.

I have to say that I'm enjoying this car more than any before, which is saying something as I've owned cars for the past 40 odd years.

is climate control basically air conditioning? is it wort the money? in the summer i just put the air con on low if it's really hot or just open my window

Climate control is like a computer for the airconditioning AND the heating and ventilation. You set a temperature e.g 21*c and it will keep that temperature either by applying heat or on a hot day (unlikely ) turn on the Air con until the temp's come down.

I had climate on my last Clio. It didn't seem to do much in the way of ventilation, I used the windows or sunroof for that, but it kept the temperature at a more or less even setting. When I bothered to switch it on that is.

The only reason I wanted it on the AGP is that the centre console looks better with it, and the extra cost of £250 is neither here nor there compared to the total cost of the car.

However, I would have had to wait two months for a white car with leather and climate. There were two white cars on the list, one with leather and one with climate. I wanted the leather seats more than the climate and didn't want to wait for another car. The leather seats really lift the interior of the car.

We wanted just aircon as I've had climate in the Beemer and Audi and thought it a waste of money. I wanted a knob to turn to make it get colder or hotter.
Unfortunately all the cars coming in seem to have climate specced, so that's what we got. Hope it's reliable as Fiat mechanical knobs seem to last longer than their electronics. ;)

And yes, the dash does look nicer with the climate.

By ventilation I mean't speed of the fans and weither they recirc air or take it from outside.

I like it, its set and i never need touch it, and i can smack peoples hands when they go to touch it.

oh i see cheers chris, it must use alot of fuel when people keep it on tho don't you think.

Has anyone done 2000 miles plus yet in their AGP?

If so have you noticed any difference in performance and fuel consumption?

My dealer said the ecu would change the performance of the engine after 2000 miles or so. After putting on 1200 miles in 2 weeks, I'm doing more normal mileage now - 200 miles per week.

Mine has done about 3.5K miles now, it's averageing about 32 to the gallon, it did 2000 miles in the first 2 weeks as I was using it for work, gone back to my van now as don't want to kill the car.

My wife drives mine during the week so the mpg has dropped a bit as she only goes to the shops and back.

The only problem with mine is that the brakes have squeeked ever since I got it, anyone else have this problem?

Cheers

Duncan.

coppa slip on the back of the brake pads. sort it right out.

Just picked my new GPA up today. No squealing brakes.
Almost shed a tear for the old Mk1 Sporting we left behind, such a good car. Now, when's that SS kit coming in ;)

Hi,

Thanks for the advice, took all the wheels and calipers off on Saturday and put some Brembo copperslip my mate had on the pads.

Didn't squeek at all for about 20 mins and then started again.

Still a lot better than it was, only does it when going dead slow.

They are effectively track pads so are usually slightly smaller than original (to allow expansion when hot), so allow more movement. The pad material is also more agressive with more enphasis on stopping than quietness.

Never really found coppaslip to do much. Buffer pads do a better job (made by 3M) but do reduce peddle feel a little.

If the squeal is not too bad, then live with it. You have proper brakes if they are noisy :)

Thanks for the info, I had what looked like exactly the same calipers on my Subaru Sti before and they didn't squeek.

I did notice when I took the pads out that they aren't Brembo pads, or at least they have "Fiat, Alfa, Lancia" written on the back of them. Having said that they are a lot more powerfull than the Subaru brakes, mind you the Scooby did have more than twice as much power.

Still more than happy with the car, small, powerfull enough and now I've done a few thousand miles in it I love the steering, but only with the sport boost switched on, have to agree that I didn't like it to start with either.
