Hey all,

This is gonna sound really dumb...but I thought i should still post in case anyone else had a similar problem (probably a freak like me )

My car key keeps getting stuck in the fuel tank cap......do the fiat makers want to make opening n locking of the fuel tank a bit more dodgy:bang:

does anyone else think it is a bit fiddly...n if the clever ones can shed some light into this;)

Many thanks folks

took me a while to the the knak of it but got it sorted now lol. i think its getting stuck because it hasnt locked properly. oo and what colour is ur gp? ive got a black 1.2 dynamic :D

why couldnt fiat make it more user friendly (n). do u know if they have changed the design at all for the series 2 gp's?

guys its not rocket science....put key in turn key turn cap & release...refit in reverse. If its not that simple then its probably f*cked so get new one as dont want to be stranded at petrol station.....happened to me aat petrol station after bodyshop repaired my mondeo but forgot to reattatch the fuel flap release cable..........oh and forgot to hook the exhaust back on its rubber mounts:mad:

Thanks very much for the reply T, can you please elaborate on the refitting and locking bit...as that is when the key gets stuck...I seem to ve been managing the opening of the cap fine as it's clockwise then counter....but closing it up n locking is where the confusion lies...

And Mr. Edward....mines is new orleans blue.... I think i've hardly seen that colour on the roads (but then i ve hardly spotted any gps in my area:eek:)

GP's with no locking fuel cap

If you lock the car does the fuel flap (not the cap) lock, a bit like it does on the stilo, car locked no access to fuel cap cause flap is locked too, car unlocked and you can access the fuel cap as the flap is unlocked???

No, if you lock the car the fuel flap still open's.

ps you on those silly night shifts again !!!!!!!!!

I know of several car manufacturers that used different metals for the lock face and the spring-loaded door that closes the lock hole when you take the key out.

The problem with that is, the two metals can react, and things get unnecessarily difficult.

As steve119 says, get in there with some WD40 or, better, some ACF50. It'll act not only as a lubricant, but an inhibitor, too.

At least its a simple desgin, on my mums SLK you push the cap which triggers an electric servo to pop the cap open, this servo failed which left her stranded with no fuel. It also cost over £100 to get a guy out to fix it with the part, ther is no way to acess it without removing all the inside of the cars boot and some of the retractable roof parts.

Back on topic, this sounds stupid but is you key clean? Mine was getting stuck in the ignition cos i had some sand in the grove part of the key, cleaned it out and now its fine.

 shocking. No locking cap, no locking flap, my god anyone could come along and siphon off all your fuel.

Nope, there is an anti syphon device. I think all modern cars have them. That doe snot stop someone putting something in your tank. I have heard of people taking a p*ss in tanks and wrecking the car. How old is your GP, mine is 57 and it had a locking cap!

LOL. Correction, "does not"

I prefer my doe like this
