Got my Eibach Sportlines today :)

Just one question though, in the box it comes with the springs in a row and to me the 2 outer springs seem slightly bigger and wider then the 2 springs in the middle. Now question is which ones go on the front and which ones go on the back?

Are you lowering it with the 15" steelies still on? you must show me a pic if so!!!!!!

Forgot to mention, a squrit of WD40 on all of the bolts 24 hours before you undo them will make things far more smooth sailing (probably not vital on a car of this age but cant hurt)

As for your springs, here is a pic of my old Jamex Bravo HGT springs. The one on the left is the front spring and the one of the right is the rear spring:



They should look pretty much the same for the GP but if yours dont vaugely resemble the above or you're still stuck then take a quick pic and post it up, either myself or someone else should be able to decipher front from back (y)

The one on the left of that pic looks virtually the same as 1 of mine so must also be the front, 6 "Coils" if you like.

But the other one doesn't look like the one on the right, it only has 7 coils not 9 like yours. Different car, different design I guess. So I assume this one is the rear.

You'd think they'd put Front and Rear on them :bang: lol

To be honest, any uncertanties about which one is which will be quickly cleared up as soon as you remove one of the standard springs.

I would suggest to anyone doing springs for the first time, start with the rears and see how you get on before venturing onto the fronts. The rears are quicker and easier to do but they also involve less removing/dismantling of parts so even if you did get half way through the job and lost your bottle, it wouldnt be the end of the world and it would be easy enough to put right ;)

The first time you do a suspension swap it's very daunting but once you've done one it gets easier.

Also helps if your first time doing it is on a Cinq/Sei because they are the most straight forward and easy to do. The Bravo got me stuck the first time because the front shock would not come out no matter which way I turned it (got there in the end but chipped the front wing at the same time :( ) Second time around on the Bravo they were out and replaced in no time :)

Reading it makes me think I could do it with no problems...would love to get my hands dirty on this one! But I dunno...just abit nervous bout the whole thing as it's a big deal if it goes wrong!! Could do with another pair of hands who actually knows what they're doing I think tbh!! Will have a think though 'cos I would prefer to do it myself and save the fitting cost...just want it done right!

It is a simple straight forward job, just take your time and make sure you've got a helpful pair of hands (and eyes). The rears are actually only 1 bolt out, 1 bolt back in on each side once you've removed the rear wheels ;)

The front is 5 bolts each side to remove the shock/spring unit and then 1 more bolt holding the top mount down - The biggest thing with the fronts is you really do need to take your time and follow guidelines when compressing the springs (an unsecured spring can be deadly when removing the top mount :eek: )

I dont tend to find myself in Birmingham very ofter mate (in fact I cant remember the last time I was there) but if you want a bit of over-the-phone advice, drop me a PM and I'll give you my number. More than happy to offer any advice that I can :)
 
Sounds good I will try to give it a go, but if I can't do it I will probs take it to a garage. Would the garage know what they doing on a Grande and do it all right? Or should I give them your guide? :p

Just make sure you tell them that some fool named Si said that it needs to be done this way or else............. :p

In all seriousness, as Matt said it's pretty much the same process on all cars that run individual springs (torsion bar rear suspension is something that I've never ventured into)

Invalidate the warrenty on shocks and stuff directly related to the suspension. Doesnt bother me unlikely any of that stuff is gonna go from such a small drop in my 3yr warrenty period.

nah that definately helps alot mate!!

Now that you've just said 'it's only 5 bolts' i'm even more tempted to give it a go lol. Need to go find some spring compressors me thinks!

well said Matt! besides...if you change the shocks aswell then you'll have a manufacturer warrenty with them anyway which cover the replacement parts so you'll be covered anyway (y)
