no real advantage over a normal tyre apart from being able to drive with a flat.

however as the sidewall is very stiff, you tend to get a very bumpy ride and cornering is a bit hairy as you dont feel much response with the runflat compared to having a "normal" tyre. heard this on tv and it was the same in my mums car before she got normal tyres.

Run flats are crap they will screw up the handling of your car.

And why would a tyre bulge be covered under warrenty? You only get them from driving your tyre into something hard.

Yeah ive given them a test. I prefer them to the potenza, quieter, grip better although they squeal quite a bit under hard launches and hard brakeing but i can cope with that.

Bank end still likes to get a bit loose though.

Runflats are meant to be installed on cars with pressure sensors as they don't go totally flat like a normal tyre so if you are mentally handicapped or doing an 8 hour stint on a motorway you may not notice the deflation and they aren't meant to be anymore than a get you home/to the nearest tyrecentre measure.

Sorry for asking a question (y) and i haven't hit, driven over anything hard...

You dont need to hit or drive over anything hard to get a lump in your sidewall, just scrubbing the kerb can pinch the tyre causing a bulge, and as for it being covered on the warranty.......no chance, sorry

If you want tyres for your GP sporting in the standard size and money is no object then go for Michelin Pilot Sport 3, Pirrelli P-Zero Assemetrical ,Continental SportContact 3 or Bridgestone Potenza RE050A ! If you want to save a little money but still get a good tyre try the BF Goodrich g-force Profiler and Uniroyal Rainsport 2 as both are available in the standard size and have been given good reveiw on the tyreveiws site ! If you must go wider 215 45 17 is preferable because it's load rating is higher than the standard 88 unlike 215 40 17 which is lower ! 205 40 17 's load rating is also too low too :)

Why is it too low?
The standard tyres have a maximum payload of 560kg per tyre which is a total of 2240kg which is around 20% above the maximum payload of the car ( T-Jet 1730kg Multijet 1780kg ) ! The load rating takes into account cornering forces and other forces on the tyre such as speed humps and potholes etc ! If you reduce the load rating you risk reducing the ability of your tyre to absorbe road shocks ! :)
