Been recording my fuel consumption since I got the car from new:eek:
Had a remap and have noticed the fuel consumption hasn't really improved but the trip computer mpg is now consistently over reading (averaged over 38 tankfuls):

Pre remap
Trip computer 43.95mpg
Calculated 44.58mpg

Post remap
Trip computer 48.95mpg
Calculated 44.81mpg

That's a +4mpg error post remap .
Attached a graph for those of a certain persuasion!

Now I'm not moaning cos I love the remap and does exactly what I wanted.
Calculated values come from pump litres and trip odometer reading. Before anyone suggests, measured the trip odometer against google maps and it is considerably accurate less than 0.5% error.

I've got to be honest I also noticed my MPG over reading by quite a bit but to be honest I've not taken the time to note figures and calculate averages.

Used to read 47mpg but calculated closer to 40mpg

This doesnt seem to be tied to pre/post map though in my case (at least I dont think it is)

I really hope that my computer doesnt over read lol

Lmao Matt... (y)

Not being quite so anal as the OP I can say that a £35 purchase of diesel used to last me 4 - 6 days but the last 2 weeks (post re-map) I have got to sundays each week (7 days) with some to spare. Driving pattern pretty much the same, no long distance stuff and no prolonged mad sprints its been too friggin wet but I will get anal and do the sums. :p

wow you've really took anal to the next level!. Interesting info though! :D.

I am aware it's not terribly exciting  but for my job I am involved in measurements and data analysis so wasn't much effort. Also in my defence I have to record my fuel purchases for company car expenses so just do this every time I fill up.

My point is that some people use the possibility of better fuel consumption as a minor reason for getting a remap.
Ain't so in my case, just saying you can't rely on the trip computer post remap and afaiac numbers/facts speak more than subjective opinions.

I get +7mpg worst case

With the BHP and Torque gains, the little extra MPG hasnt even entered my mind when it comes to thinking about a re-map. lol. but i guess if its even the same then im very happy. because of the performance increase.

Damn right... (y) Point is the car "goes" more easily in higher gears, less or no downshifting needed. Torque and power curves are now smooth and even with the standard maps dips at 2000 to 2400 rpm and 2750 and 3400 rpm now gone, far more linear delivery and its noticeable not just in performance but in the wallet too.

IMO! :D

Jumped to GP threads to see if FOLLICKLY CHALLENGED FFOXY was still enjoying improved economy since our trip to Watford, I know about the follickles because we shared that cold head feeling outside RED DOT,
Mine was reading 42 but getting 41-43. Since the remap it reads 51 after a mixture of different roads and short / long trips but on refill, at the same garage and pump, the calculated usage taken from the trip odemeter and gallons used, was actually 41.
So no change in MPG in real terms, just a huge leap in power :D
Shame really, because I was thinking I had a big economy increase too.

Theres a lot of bull floating about how remaps work.

1. Manufacturers/ECU designers don't release source code to Joe Remap.

2. Joe Remap doesn't have the resources to reverse engineer ECU software in any detail - he gets his info from Johnny Pirate

3. Johnny Pirate is a pretty smart guy who's worked out how to patch a bit of wobbly code into the software. The bit just before the injectors fire.

4. Joe Remap and all his chums down at the rechip saloon pay Johnny a wodge to get this software kludge running on their kit, they all agree not say anything to anyone and everyones a happy bunny.

5. The reason the mpg does not actually increase is simple - you don't get something (increased power) for nothing (less fuel). Power/torque increase in diesels is SIMPLY OVERFUELLING.

6. The reason you think (i.e. the "on board computer") is getting better mpg, is the software is cocked up. You're operating lower down in the maps and the untouched bit of the software assumes lower injection rates than is actually the case.

7. All remaps are detectable - A simple CRC check on the code memory would show it up.

 Thanx for that, please let Oldschool know he has been ripped off and you can help him understand his Business much betterI am sure he will be grateful. (y)

On second thoughts just GTFO Corsa boy. WTF? :D

The answer to this thread title is 'yes' it definitely does. In my case a marginal difference can be seen on 'long' motoway journeys that I'm familier with. From the Midlands to the South coast every few months basically.

I think improved drivability is the main reason to get a remap done though. The fuel consumption is obviously dertermined by how you drive.

Where'd the tact go, after the first response? :d Lmao!

Lol its all a bit tongue in cheek really but I cant accept Corsakid knows more than Oldschool on mapping. I think the lad confuses mapping with tunit type boxes TBH.

Totally agree (y)

Nice one you've just prooved you know nothing about ECU remapping as well as computer hardware engineering nice one (y). They don't JUST change fueling it changes injection timing in diesels and ignition timing in petrols.

And yes it is a piece of **** to reverse engineer, after all its just stored on a ROM / EEPROM chip on the ECU board. If it comes to the crunch you can just remove the chip and put it in a universal EEPROM / ROM reader and do a raw code dump.

And a simple 'CRC check on the code memory' wouldn't show f*** all for the simple fact a 'Remap' wouldn't touch the code memory!.

I suggest you have a deep look into yourself as a human being and figure out why you feel the need to post crap on the forum.
