General Number plate reverse parking sensor

General Number plate reverse parking sensor

wish i had spotted this earlier :bang: ordered one today Then again i'm getting the uprated one as i have a towbar which uses 2 separate antenna's

http://www.parkingdynamics.co.uk/boosting-detection-range.pdf

which is the only reason i went with it most reversing sensors will see the towbar (even the proper fiat factory fit)

Well as a follow up i bought one of these units and it works a treat (well to my limited range of tests which involved reversing at my mums KA  (good job she's still on holiday :p) the garden fence and a stirrup bike pump picks the car and the fence ok and the bike pump which is fractionally smaller than a scaffold poll which it sees but only at the last min...

Fitted it tonight in under 3 hours using tommy_8884 's Guide to get the bumper off hampered a bit by the towbar (nothing the Windy gun wouldn't solve bet the neighbours love me ;) )

Anyhow e-mailed parking Dynamics Via ebay and got a reply about the towbar and followed his instructions I fitted 2 sensor strips one just above the number plate and one just below and covered with black Duck/Duct tape (now this is the point you all beg for Photos but my camera is in Dalby Forest in my mum/dads caravan :bang: getting a warning about 30cm from the tow ball so that will do me fine (y)

hahaha what douche bag asked this question

mate parking sensors are for fools
shouldnt be driving if you dont have the confidence to park your car.

plus bumpers are effective when going less than 5mph!

any1 ever been to ibiza?
it seems common practice to bash the cars front and behind to park

But surely its better to have them then not have them?

Or should i just risk it and drill away?

Sorry m8, but my opinion is if you really need to think about parking sensors for a GP then you should think about not driving at all after all it's not the biggest or hardest thing to park.(y)

All well and good but do any of you actually drive a Grande punto?

Parking sensors Do NOT replace good driving skills which i can wedge the GP in a nice tight gap anyway, but if it saves me the embarrassment of hitting another car or backing it into a wall or bollard or lemming child (you only need to be distracted for a second) to cause a good few hundred quids worth of damage or kill the kid it'll more than pay for itself...

Its the same as most car technology you don't need ABS, ESP, ASR, Seatbelts, Air con, Sat-Nav If you are a good driver (and can read a map) but its there when needed or some other numpty does something silly

and the good thing about the system i got is no one need know i have it fitted ;)

I baught that sticky strip one, it looks pretty good just waiting for it to arrive now ;)

From what the chap from parking Dynamics told me as i have a towbar (and the GP has a Crash bar its better to run 2 antenna he sent me an extra one Free i run one above the number plate (remove the 2 numberplate lights first) and the other just below the plate (i'll get some pictures up and draw on the locations i used) it goes to full alarm about 30cm from the tip of the towball apparently using one sensor makes it less sensitive you could always try one first then fit the other if your not happy..

You will also need a roll of BLACK duck/duct tape to sheild the sensor from the crash bar

Now with hindsight i should have photographed it step by step but my camera wasnt at home and it was 11pm by the time i'd finished

http://www.parkingdynamics.co.uk/boosting-detection-range.pdf

to pair the sensors i ignored the instructions about bringing them together and crimping them i soldered wire to both spades to link it at and soldered the antenna wire to the spade (Nothing in my eyes like a good connection)

I drilled a small hole in the side of the car  to pass the cable into the boot if you remove the carpet on the left you will be able to work out where to drill and ( i sealed the metal with a drop of touch up pen) then sealed against water and to prevent the cable chafing with a hot melt glue gun and stuck the cable in place in the same way)then pass the cable through the hole and into the bottom corner of the boot (actually no thats wrong passes the cable from the inside out due to the little plug only found out once i'd soldered it :bang:) wire into the reverse light circuit (use a meter to work out the polarity (I used the towbar relay as it has the reverse wire connected to it anyway) then mounted the sounder

Technophobe

:ROFLMAO:

The last thing i want to do is punch a 50mm hole in someone else's bumper like it or not the shape of modern cars makes it hard to judge in my old ford Fiesta you could see the end of the bonnet you can see far more in my old mans focus estate than you can in the GP

For those who are interested i'm in the process of uploading a couple of videos of the unit in my car once they become live on you tube i'll post the links (y)

sensor locations (run round the side and stop 15cm 6" from the edge of the bumper)

So its been 5days now so any updates?

yep still works fine can give a slight error on uneven ground (our drive goes down to the pavement and upto the road) or if reversing on uneven ground but had no problem with it (y)

edit and you have to wait for the 3 beeps when you select reverse or it goes crackers as it cant self test when moving
