I posted this in LL but thought it would be better posted in GP Technical, appologies...

Guys, picking up on the turbo failures on GP's and wondering about the suspected "batch" issue or is it something else?

To those of you who have re-mapped.

Do you change your oil at shorter intervals than the original Fiat recomendation or stick to that schedule?

If you change the oil more often (say half the interval) did you have a turbo failure?

If you stuck to the recomended schedule did you have a turbo failure?

I am assuming Selenia or equivalent grade / quality oil and filter were used.

Is your driving style "normal", "enthusiastic" or "manic"

I am slightly worried about having a remap now it just cant be a bad batch of turbos can it? Seems to me that most people on this forum who have haid a remap have had turbo problems.

TBH I dont think that is the case, thats why I have asked the questions in the Thread as I suspect there are other issues afoot here.

Doesnt inspire total confidence though. :(

Bumpety bump... come on you re-mapped GP owners...:)

Bump again.... where are all the re-mapped GP Members?

had mine mapped at 4,000 miles, now done 54,000 miles, and never had to top the oil up, serviced by fiat every 18,000 miles, absolutley no problems at all.... engine/turbo/clutch/g-box still running like they are new...... (y)

That's impossible man, your car was mapped by those Angel tuning idiots! hahaha j/k;)

Please to hear everythings ok sharkie, have you had it rolling roaded again as I don't remember your torque being that high before, that's phenomenal?!

hey Shopshire_lad (y), haven't been on for a while :p , yes been RR'd again.... had a fabia vRS that made only 129bhp at the wheels but 155 at the fly... going on similar losses that would make mine 173bhp at the fly (yes, a VERY reliable and good Angel tuning map ;) wonder if any of the blown turbo's were from angel maps?! mine is fine ;) the only difference between the last RR and the current one was shell V-power.... made an extra 7 bhp at the wheels, and a whopping extra 34 lbs/ft torque.. go fiqure ! lol.... RR figures are always subject to "variation".... we should try to get the country to concentrate on wheel horsepower figures, which are actually what your car is doing to the rollers, not what the "calculation " is inbetween  mine is at 147bhp at the wheels, its an '07 plate, garratt turbo, and all is fine and dandy (y)

edit: the graph will be on awsome gti's site soon (when they decide to update! ) the latest briskoda RR day...... mine made the 4th highest torque of the day, bear in mind there were some awome cars like cols mazda 3 mps giving 255bhp at the wheels, standard with 1,000 miles on the clock!

If it's a dodgy turbo then it will eventually 'blow up' anyway, the remap will just make it 'blow up' faster as the map makes the turbo work harder, so it's more likely to blow up while your car is still in warranty. :)

Theyre Garrett turbos aren't they? Renault have had trouble on their 1.9 DCi Engines because of these.

My parents Laguna had the first turbo replaced under warranty at 16,000 miles as it was leaking oil & i've since read about the turbos failing on Renaults where it can take the engine with it, so we just keep a close eye on the oil level & condition & try to let it idle for a few mins after a long journey to let things cool down gradually. It's now on 46,000 miles & had no more trouble yet so hopefully thatll prolong the life of the turbo abit. If it's the same turbos on the GP i guess the same treatment would help. Not convinced about these remaps tho.

ive always woundered about cooling the turbo down, but aparently its not essential on geometrical turbo? I think that the type of turbo on the GP

I always let it cool... (and yes, its a variable vane turbo) simply by driving it gently for the last few miles home... hope it prolongs long life...don't really know if its ness, but I've had turbo cars for many years, right back in the old saabs, and they wern't watercooled, and had a habbit of blowing up if you didn't let them cool down properly......

as for garrats I thought they were the more reliable.... on the fabia vRS there are two types used, garatt and kkk, and its normally the kkk ones that blow on the vRS, not the garetts.....
