General GP Sporting 1.6 Diesel?!

The 5 year unlimited mileage warranty is a major factor here - It can also be transfered to the next owner and will definitely help keep resale values high.

I'm guessing this is the same 1.6 diesel they are using in the new Bravo which means you could always get to see it now to have more of an idea of what you might be getting.

presuming that the new 1.6 will be the same as the one in the bravo (the 1.6 16v 120) the fiat website says that it has 300nm of torque, but that's 20 more than the 1.9, is this right?

Its not the Peugeot 1.6 HDI from the joint van project is it?

The 1.6 16V Multijet in the forthcoming Mito has 320nm/235lbft... a truck load.

No. A brand new design unique to Fiat Powertain Technologies - and currently only available in Fiat Group autos.

The PSA/Ford unit is 1560cc the Fiat unit is 1598cc

Thanks for the reply
Blimey that's loads, anyone reckon this will raise the insurance group or perhaps lower it, because its a 1.6?

I've been told that it's the same bhp (130), is 10% lighter and 8% more economical...

Official specs of the Mito put the kerb weight of the 1.6 Mjet 60kg heavier than the 1.4 TB.

GP 1.4 16v 95hp - 1060kg
Mito TB 1.4 155hp - 1145kg
GP T-Jet 120hp - 1155kg
Abarth GP 155hp - 1185kg
GP M-Jet 130hp - 1205kg
Mito M-Jet 1.6 120hp- 1205kg

These are official Fiat Italia weights in DIN kg. Not any UK based comparisons - all the magazines etc seem to have differing weights.

I'm sure I read on FF someone saying that the T-Jet 120 GP was only 1060kg? Maybe if you took all the wheels off!

I've also found out that the Italian 'Dynamic' T-Jet with 15" wheels has a 0-62 time is 8.9, and the Sport with 17" does it in 9.3 (Again - straight from the horses mouth)

comparing the 1.6 mito there and 1.9 GP weight in at the same! am sure when i looked at the figures for the mito there was brealy anything in the consumption different something like 1/2mpg more round town and about 5 at most on combined! Will have a look at the brochure when i get home from work.. The only major difference is tax with the 1.6 unit being £90 and the 1.9 now around £135/140. Any one know the insurance group of the new 1.6 unit?

Would expect it to be around the same 5/6??

Hi guys!

This is my first post here! Anyway...my opinion is that the curent MJet1.6 16v although just as powerful as the "old" 1.9 8v Diesel unit, shall not benefit from a power delivery as smooth as the 1.9. You see, there's no replacement for displacement. :) Engine displacement that is. Look at the 1.3 MJet units. You got your basic 1.3 Mjet which puts out 75 PS - a very honest proposal - and you got your sterioid version which puts out 90 PS. I drove the latter and although the 90 PS are there, the way they are delivered lives a lot to be desired. (Until about 1200-1300 it's basically gutless, whereas afterwards the turbo cuts in very abbruptly. Not my kind of engine.)

Bigger engine displacement requires a smaller and more nimble turbo unit, with a lower spool up time -> a better response -> the engine feels "more present". However, the need for lower emissions far outweighs all other facts, so we're stuck with the 1.6 16v now.

Cheers!

A few of my colleagues run Leon FR's as company cars. Not one would have another one... Think of the build quality of a Fiat, but with none of its 'brio' The TFSI engine is a stormer tho, the TDI 170 with the pumpe duse tech is a bit of a tractor, but nippy nonetheless.

I work for Volkswagen who own SEAT so could someone inform me where TFSI came from? (I'm assuming it means FSI with Turbo?)

I had a 1.4 TSI GOLF PETROL 122 PS and currently have a 2.0 TDI Diesel 140PS (which eats standard 1.9 GP Sportings - must be due to the torque difference:p)

Thanks

Just got this responce from fiat when asking about the 1.6 diesel...

Dear Mr *****,

Thank you for contacting the Fiat Information Centre.

The Grande Punto series 2 still features the 1.9 multijet engine. At the
moment the 1.6ltr diesel engine is unique to the Bravo, there are no plans
to launch it in any other models at this stage.

You can view technical specifications for the 1.6 engine in the brochure
for the Bravo. Please supply a postal address if you would like a copy of
this brochure.

If you require further assistance or need to know the whereabouts of other
authorised Fiat dealership please go to www.fiat.co.uk or alternatively
give us a call on 00800 3428 0000. Any one of our Customer Service
Representatives will be happy to assist with your enquiries. We are here to
help Monday to Saturday 9am – 6pm.

Ciao,

Fiat Information Centre

I've come to the conclusion that FIAT do not communicate anything within their own organisation.

Fiat dealers have received emails informing them of the change, yet the monkey based in god knows where who wrote that email hasn't got a clue.

Sounds about right.
