I had to do it as i needed them and i couldn't wait 2 days for red dot to send me the performance parts.

Apparantly i had 1mm left on my discs! and no pads. my last service said it was fine... like hell i'm going there again!(n)

Do you rag it?. Im at 16.5k and plenty left on mine.

Didn't you feel the braking suffering if you ha nothing left on the pads?? Didn't they grind etc? You are very lucky if you had nothing left on the pds and disc's were in such poor condition. An accident waiting to happen!

The fact you are needing to replace the disc's also after 21k

On all my cars I've had 25k+ out of all my pads with a mixture of town and motorway use.

TBH im a bit shocked at that... Got over 40 000 miles out of a set of pads and discs on the focus I had. On another note from a thread ive read on here about tyre treads, mine are still quite healthy at 10 000

Yeah but what Tym hasnt mentioned is he does track days, (apparently gets 32mpg on track days), he also has had a remap, check his signiture 180 bhp, he also has subs and amps etc in the car, and he had his service on 5th May. So Tym, if you drive like a nugget, you will use brakes, and no workshop in the world can predict how a nugget will use his brakes up.
So grow up, and stop complaining about your vehicles service and also stop scaremongering people with stories of premature brake wear.

Oh dear:D

I once went through a set of pads in 980 miles, during my early driving days, from new to down to metal in 980 miles, and that was in a Vauxhall Chevette lol

My car has done 28k miles with the orignal discs and pads and still going strong(y)

Yep got over 50,000 on my Stilo B4 they needed replacing. I wonder if his MPG is as low as his wearing brakes out ability is high?

yeah i changed my discs on my stilo @ 50k, the front needed it.. but the rear were only half worn! Front pads were changed around 30k, but still had plenty of life in them.. nothing like being carefully!

I think trackdays are the best places if you want to thrash, race, be a nugget instead of being a complete muppet on the road, breaking the law and dangering other people/lives.

ok i don't know tym so maybe i should keep my mouth shut here BUT it seems you are all slagging him for driving like an idiot?

Ok accepted he does the odd track day (and sorry tym but if you don't change your pads discs and tyres after that you are asking for trouble IMHO)

So assuming he he looks after his car to assume that he drives like a nut simply because he has tuned it is frankly absurb i think!

I could accept this arguement if his was standard and not serviced then track dayed fair enough thats someone who doesn't give a toss, but i personally fell whe someone spends a lot of time and money on a car tuning or detailoing or whatever it NORMALLY shows they look after their car and as such even though having a remap is unlikely to drive like a fool yes more speed will be used but you would like to think thatb having done numerous track days he has learned how to drive in a safe controlled yet fast manner? Persoanlly speaking i think anyone who can tame the ring must drive fairly sensibly as if he was a complete tw*t and jumped on the brake pedal everywhere or carried stupid speeds thru corners or tried to apply the power in silly places then even as good as the electronics are on a GPS i seriously doubt the car would have made it bad in one piece!

Point am making is just because someone mods there car or drives fast doesn't mean they have no mechanical sympathy or common sense.

I have been involved in various forms of motor sport all my life and can honestly say on the road i drive as safely and with as much mechanical sympathy as the next guy

so maybe tym is an ass I don't know but don't have a go unless you do know for sure and are not just going by the fact he has tuned his car or sen a trackday or 2!

rant over

I looked through Tyms old posts and discovered what I stated. I thought this was highly relevant to the statements he was making regarding his servicing garage and the life expectency of his brakes.

sorry maybe i misread the posts but the way i read it it seemd a couple of people were implying he drives like an idiot and wrecks his car and hence its his fault and stop scare mongering or moaning, where as he COULD have just been stating facts and advising other owners it seems if you say anything negative about fiats on here people are only too keen to jump down your throat sadly in my short expereince anyways which is a shame as this is a great forum and has lots of very useful info and members who know their stuff oh and the oracle that is T!
