Pffft... in my experience from this forum most dealers do their best to get out of any warranty obligation, and a dealer stamped service book adds nowt to re-sale values.

A large percentage of my work is warranty related, if in the event of a goodwill claim the customer has no Fiat service history then as far as i'm concerned thats it. If however the customer has full service history from main dealer etc etc then I will 'fight the customers corner all the way' for goodwill as a loyal customer.

I think it would be unrealistic for Fiat to pay goodwill on the basis of the cars never been near a main dealer since it was sold. Dealerships spend a huge amount on training (Fiat make them!) every year for their techs to maintain & repair their cars so why should any goodwill be given if they are not used?

First 12 thousand service £150 approx
Second 18 Thousand Service £150 Approx (it wasn't any cheaper)
Third 36 (or something like that) Im trying to put off!!

That is no where near the prices that was stated!

stated by who the garage?

No I've had both services I'm waiting for my third one to come along at this moment.. god knows how much its going to st service 0.. and that's norwich dealer.. the first service I. and that's norwich dealer.. the first service I got a "discounted" rate because I brought it there instead of the dealer I brought it from or some bull like that..

I take it you mean Desira in Norwich? They are normally very competitive price wise.

3rd year many places are doing for £99 (see opening post)

Theres the rub tho T, not all, (very few) dealers are as supportive and accomodating as you and the dealer you are at. I was offered 6.5k for my GPS against a GPS TJet with no-one looking at my service history. 1st service was done by the dealer, 2nd by a trusted independent. And as I said the spanner and Service coupon expired warnings went off all on their own 500 miles after my service was done. I agree Fiat dont need to show loyalty to those with no Dealer service history, but then I feel I got no loyalty from them anyway even before I had my 2nd service.

We bought 3 cars, all new, from that dealer, their gain and now their loss IMO.

Dealers need to make the use of their facilities more affordable and competitive, its a tough market out there, and getting tougher by the week.

I think your 'gripes' are more with the sales department. Its very rare for the sales dept to ask the service dept to check a car before they part exchange it as it will cost £10 approx. However this is little outlay when the sales dept find out (after customer has driven off in nice new shiny bravo) that the mk2 punto they exchanged has no service history & power steering warning light comes on resulting in a £450 bill + a couple of tyres/oil & filter/ pads & discs etc.

Trade in cars should be checked and valued accordinally however sales dept will never do this & prefer just to walk around the car once then offer you the lowest trade in value.

Service data is still stored even though light goes out, again something that should affect trade in price IMO, full dealer history should result in best trade in value.

Cool, so I take it to the dealer for the cheaper services and ask them to clear the service codes (my cost) Still quids in that way, rankles a bit tho that a budget brand car has to be service jiggled like this to stay a budget brand.

Does £290 seem excessive for a service in swansea for a gp 130mjet 26K

any suggestions of cheaper fiat dealers

Im in Swansea and for the 2nd year (ive done 25k, whatever service mileage is) service ive been quoted £376 as the cheapest from a Dealer (Eric Ashmole) tempted to look elsewhere but theres a few warranty jobs (Flatspot in 3rd - EGR i think, Water in Tailgate, wheel nuts, boot not shutting properly and howling brakes when reversing... a 'few' jobs lol) i'd like doing too, so figure its best to keep dealer happy. Plus they said they do the aircon which means it might actually get more than cool now.

T you quoted £200 for a diesel punto
does this include a DRP filter (i think that is the right letters) one of them stupid ones with a sensor, and air con charge, and brake fluid change and oil change and the diesel equivalent to spark plugs? i cannot see how they can do all that for 200?
or am i missing something?
i just got quoted £352 how can i justify the extra £150 just to appear loyal to a dealer?

now ia m totally confused.
i have got quoted from £230 - 440 do they just take the **** of people.
they are all fiat dealers within 10 miles of were i live so why the massive differences. How do i knwo which one to trust?

I'd go with the dealer, at the end of the day, theyre the ones who provide your 3rd year warranty. So they are more likely to help you out if you have paid the money to have the car serviced by them. See it as a gamble, you may pay the money but never have to use your warranty in the 3rd year. Or you could pay at a local then your turbo goes in the 3rd year and youre left with a hefty bill.

And as to what they do, there was a comprehensive list on here somewhere about what is undertaken at different services, but unfortunately i cant seem to find it anymore.

Is that for the 2nd year major service? Dont suppose you could e-mail me a scan of that leaflet can you, booked mine in for a quoted £376, so would be nice to see if i could get a discount.

Just phoned Warrington Motors for a price on my cars first service and nearly had a heart attack £239.86 :woot:  When i asked what's involved she said they change the oil & filter and pollen filter. She asked had i had a price elsewhere when i sounded shocked, then said if i get a price from another dealer she would see what she could do. I also asked what the cost of the second service is whilst i was on the phone, she said about £289.

So there's only £50 difference between year one and two :chin:

Bloody robbin gits!!

Im just waiting for Chappel House, Southport to phone me back, if they do!! I was waiting for someone to answer the phone for about 5 mins, then i was put on hold twice to be told the person i need to speak to was on the other line :bang:

I phoned Ayr Fiat whilst waiting for Chappel House Nr Southport, Liverpool to get back to me.

Ayr Fiat £119 incl Vat for a first year service, an extra £29 for pollen filter, the lovely lady on the phone said it's not compulsory to change the pollen filter, i think she said it gets done in the second year serivce anyway.

Whilst i was in the process of writing this Chappel House got back to me

Here's what they said, does it have a diesel particular filter (DPS filter - i think thats what its called)

Servicing costs are as follows:

If it has the filter £158
If not £215.61

He said if it has the filter then the oil does not need changing and they would not know if the car had one or not until i brought it in. Does something sound a bit ify or is it me, surely they would now it had one of these filters? Not knowing i could take it in and they could turn round and say your car has not got one and charge me £215.61 when really it has one.

He said that if it has one the oil would not need to be changed! I also asked him where this filter is, he said something about it being in or part of the exhaust.

At this rate it would be cheaper to fill the tank up and go to ayr fiat :D

Why the hell do dealers charge such different prices??

I'm going to phone Warrington Motors again and see if they can get anywhere near Fiat Ayr's price.

EDIT: Labour time is an hour and a half according to Chappel House

EDIT2: Chappel House said if my car has this DPS filter the oil would not need to be changed! Well if that's the case then they are going to charge me £158 just to look at all the levels and check my tyre pressures etc oh and a stamp in the book to say you have been ad! :spin:

Called Warrington Motors back and after consultation with the service manager they said they can do it for £189 Max.

Said they will change oil & filter
Pollen filter
Sump plug seal.

If it has this DPF thingy then i think they said it would be even cheaper as they would not need to change oil (y)

Now that's more like it.

my first service at Motorsales Harlow (Fiat/Vauxhall/citroen) was £140 for my 1.9 sporting with about 8k on clock, my second sevice booked in for this sat is £356! she said Fiat have a small service first year the a large one second year then a small 3rd year, is this correct anyone?? my car only needs a small sevice according to the manual if you do under 12k miles year or somethin. Does the Sporting have the dpf thing? because i can tell them i dont need need my oil changing???

thanks
