As my recently purchased GP is now over two years old what are the chances of having any of the 5119 best service recalls/updates done, i.e. water in tailgate and flashing mileage. If i can get it done under warranty all well and good but the local fiat dealer wanted me to pay to investigate the tailgate problem, then claim back from warranty company if claim approved. As this is a known problem i declined their kind offer of the chance to spend £37 to let them put a hose over it.

water in tailgate/flashing mileage could be due to many things, after 2 years its highly unlikely the problem is due to design fault(s)
Dont know why you think it wouldnt be a design fault when its listed on your common faults page, and the fact that the faults remain after two years is more down to the fact the first owner never complained. Fixing known faults is called CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Hang on dont try & have a go at me about it!

If you just got the car as you say then take it back to where you got it from which I assume was a garage and let them sort it out & if they wont then phone customer services.

I have never had a 3rd year warranty claim approved for a water leak....not to say they wont in a certain circumstance(s) but if the leak was there for 2 years i'd expect to see a goldfish in the spare boot well at least.

You have a valid complaint for a well known & documented problem. All this C**P about the "3rd Year Warranty" being "underwritten" means nothing to the average buyer, who naturally (& quite rightly assumes) that they have a 3 year warranty. Fiat & Alfa Romeo sell all their new cars on the basis of a "2 year factory warranty, with a further 1 year "Dealer Warranty" i.e 3 years!

Telephone Fiat UK Customer Services & Name & Shame your dealer. I'll almost guarantee that you will quickly receive a call direct from Italy to sort the problems out. Best of luck but if you don't create a stink then nobody is going to help you....

Dont hold your breath tho.... :(

First because a fault is mentioned on a internet forum it doesn't justify it as being a well known & documented problem, the known faults list in the GP section was compelled to 'aid' repair of faults reported by users of this forum,it is in no way proof/evidence.

It is (to a extent) up to the buyer to ensure they are aware of any limitations as it is in anything in life, however I do find salesmen just mention 3 year warranty without pointing out the 3rd year exclusions.

Customer services do/will not 'fold' under pressure from callers who 'create a stink',service history & previous car history are the main factors here.Naming & shaming the dealer has nothing to do with it here,if I ran a business I certainly wouldn't be doing anything for free (you dont tend to last long as a 'business' in this way)

I done a 3rd year claim for a water leak last week which was rejected "we do not cover water leaks" was the response. Again I ask why is it only now the water leak was discovered, unfair to the buyer but your first point of call is the seller.

Didnt start this to have a go T, just wanted to know if the common faults that occur on a GP would be covered in the 3rd year. Car is a March 2006, owned by a pensioner from new, bought off a Fiat main agent With FSH and done 7200 Miles. I cant help the fact he didnt get this sorted while he had the car but as the Fiat website says & i quote " Our Three year warranty gives you total piece of mind. Your protected from almost every vehicle problem that might arise". In any event i am taking it back to the supplying dealer.

Dont worry about it,your annoyed & so would anyone be.I would go down the "you sold me a car with fault(s) therefore you should repair them" route first. If they wont then go to customer services,be polite & simply state you were sold a car from Fiat agent with faults, pictures etc are important here.

Let the garage & Fiat fight it out between them as to whom is paying.........it should not be you.The basis of this is that if you brought a 6 year old car the garage is obliged to repair any defects (normally within a 4 week period) which they have to so why not a 2 year old car?

My view on 3rd year warranty is that it is confusing to the customer (and much of the time the garage) & should be done away with, in its place a booklet should be provided clearly showing what is/what is not covered.

One point is the garage should in any case be contacting Fiat or area manager to seek authorisation to carry out the faults you have,it should not be left to the customer to get stressed out trying to get a £6k (?) car repaired after recently buying it.

What he said:):)(y)

In the words of Patrick Swayzee "Be nice, if the customer (dealer) doesn't like it be nice, then there comes a time NOT to be nice"

Agree with mostly everything you say T but cant help but think it would be much better for all concerned to just offer a full 3 year warranty. It displays a lack of confidence in the product that fiat do not and as other manufactures have found it helps the dealer network by extending the time the cars remain inside the dealer network for servicing. Would of thought its only a matter of time till fiat is forced into extending the terms of its new car warranty across the range to compete with other brands. After speaking to the supplying dealer i am confident they will resolve any issues, but would have liked to have seen a more pro-active approach re problems that have existed since the car was launched. I feel a rework on the first cars would really have been the best option now that fiat has commited to higher quality. I really like the GP and would be interested if you think a 2008 model is free of the niggles that can happen on the early ones.

I agree...but there will be exclusions (as with any manufacture like audio/inner trim etc) but they should be specified at time of purchase.

Dave if you dont get anywhere the leak in the boot should be easy to source.
take the one screw out (which is located in the pull close handle recess) the rest of the boot card is located on plastic peg fittings so start at one corner and give it a good pull...

once off

get the hose pipe out

pay special attention to the top of the high level brake light and the rear wiper grommet

mine was leaking from both the rear wiper arm seal and the high level brake light i took the brake light out (instructions for this in the handbook) cleaned the paint work around the light and applied a decent coat of car wax but didnt buff it off (you'll see why in a minute) next i cleaned the high level brake light "seal" ((if you can call it that)) with a bit of Meths then applied a VERY thin bead of clear silicone sealant and pushed the light home then wiped any excess away.. My theory is that the Wax will prevent the silicone from bonding directly to the paint so it will be possible to remove the light in the future to change the bulbs in the light unit time will tell however :chin:

as for the rear wiper remove the rear wiper arm (10mm nut) and remove the grommet/ gator and seal

mine went in twice for this and they didn't solve hence my DIY

Don't you mean "peace of mind"? "Piece of mind" is what you give the supplying dealer if they fail to fulfil their obligations!

Remember its not always the dealers, but could be Fiat themselves.

If murder was legal I would be the first to do this to their building:
