GPS Full Size Spare Wheel =]]

Hi All,

As with many of us driving sportings I had been told that a full size spare wheel would not fit. However, after the dealer insisting that it was impossible I fitted one.

1)Remove the plastic box thing blocking the boot...it is held in by a central bolt and removes by lifting towards the inside of the car.

2)Then, everything you want like the jack and air compressor etc (purchased from fiat seperately) has to be wrapped in plastic bags or else they will rattle around as there is no housing that will fit under the spare wheel.

3) Put these items in the centre of the hole near the central pillar and flatten the two bits of metal that stick upwards from the pillar (which would secure a standard space saver.). these can be easily bent downwards.

4) drop the spare wheel in towards the back of the car first under the trim lip. Face up. Careful to align the items inside it to ensure the wheel drops in completely.

5) Replace Carpet cover.

The wheel will not move around because it is exactly the same size as the hole.

Nothing will rattle because it is securely held under the wheel and wrapped in carrier bags.

The carpet will sit flat because the wheel is the exact depth of the boot hole it sits in.

Its cheaper than a space saver because i picked up a knock off diesel sporting alloy for 50 with a tyre from my fiat dealer all because it was slightly damaged. Makes a perfectly good spare wheel.

Hope this is useful!

You wont be saying that if you get a blow out or a big enough puncture that the Fix and inflate kit wont seal

Then you will look silly

That's when you go and get the car tuned so you don't notice :-) I work with computers so spend my life carrying ridiculously heavy objects for long distances...an extra few pounds doesn't bother me if it means I don't have to sit at the side of the road for hours on end!!

I've had my car since august last year and from brand new it now has 18,000 on it...i've had 2 punctures and that bloody trye stuff did nothing for the 1st...spare wheel is well worth the 50 quid it cost and the .2 of a second it takes off my 0-60

If i am tuning my car i am not going to be adding weight to it lol. That defeats the point of tuning unless you need it in certain positions in the car to balance out the weight to make the car handle better in corners.

IMHO it makes perfect sense and is a good idea. Why would you want to wait for an hour for the frikkin AA to turn up

that's true...although, I have a friend who is often in the car with me (refuses to drive anywhere) and amazingly enought although they don't look large they must weight an absolutel ton 'cos you can tell when they're in the car! Thefore, adding the extra weight to the rear is just balancing out the extra weight having a passenger adds

Thanks! That's very true...and then another few hours whilst they work out how to change a wheel

Do the AA recover cars IIRC in the small print of the policy book you must carry a serviceable spare wheel and you'll loose your no call out discount....
