Re: remap

If for my gp 8v 77hp with induction kit and full modified exhaust which Ecu chip can i use? and roughly how much hp can i achieve?

Although this thread seems to have degenerated from the Ops original question, I have another, related to the former of course.
In a recent Sedici thread a poster called ‘Sambo’ (not sure if that is a great username!) said he has a 190bhp Sedici. The problem I have, is I can’t see how this engine can produce a 47% or so increase with just a remap. I have a little knowledge about cars and have modified many of my own (it is so much cheaper with modern Turbo cars, my 130 TC nearly bankrupted me with the mods), but struggle to see how the standard turbo, injectors and inlet system could cope. I have belonged to VAG type forums and their standard 130 TDi engine (the world’s most efficient engine for many years) usually produced 170-175 bhp with a remap. It needed extensive mods to get significantly more power. Therefore I am a sceptic to the accuracy of rolling roads that give the purported figure of 190 bhp on a remap alone (1.9 tdi Sedici).
Also even more worrying is the fact that people think it is fine to produce this much power and torque without serious upgrades to brakes, suspension, clutch etc. I had 2 x Impreza Turbos and the first was an original 94 car that had ventilated discs on the back. it weighed a similar amount to the Sedici, produced only a little more power (208 bhp) and considerably less torque. I managed to glaze the discs on it and it had the ventilated rear discs on it (later dropped after the first 400 cars). The Sedici has DRUMS on the back!!!!!!!!! The Impreza had fully independent suspension too.
OK so I am just a female, but I can’t believe these claims for Uber power I am afraid. Oh and I worked in the car trade for a coupe of years too, so I have seen many modded cars in the workshops. I know my pushrods from my OHCs

The engine seems to be able to cope with this kinda of power. It's been thoroughly tested by red dot racing and every map is tailored to the unique engine.

Yes i'd recommend upgrading your brakes if your upping the power, but the standard turbo can take the extra power unless you want to floor it 24/7 and do full throttle launches constantly.

Alot of people that have upgraded the power have also upgraded there suspension aswell!

...And 190bhp isn't exactly uber. I'm not exactly impressed by my power output anymore.

The Sedici has DRUMS on the back!!!!!!!!!

What is wrong with drum brakes? Up to fairly recently a 44 ton truck relied on drum brakes. Race cars in the second quarter of the last of the 1900s were stopped on drums having had lunatic power outputs.

On a car (trucks are different) a maximum of 20% of the braking is done on the rear.

so I have seen many modded cars in the workshops.

There is hardly any modded Diesels are about. Most of the people do a re-map, a few go a bit further on the external performance mods and only a handful going into engine components.

The Fiat derived engine like in the Sedici comes as standard with 170 and 190 bhp. The limit to the re-map on the Diesel is the quality of the turbo. Most of them can take around the 200bhp.

The 1.9 unit has been taken without internal upgrading safely to 265bhp and 450lb ft by some people and it is known that the internals can take more.

Re-mapping a Turbo Diesel and a turbo petrol have very little in common in terms of performance gains.
