Hey guys. Was driving my 06 plate GP Sporting 1.9 yesterday and when i went to pull away there was this huge lack of power. Thought first that i had put in 3rd instead of first, but no it was 1st. Floored the accelerator to see if that made a difference, it did but it just seem to kick in the turbo like 10 seconds later. Drove for a bit and the response was rubbish in lower gears, but was a little better once i was at speed, but with some noticeable delay in response and a need to switch down gears which i dont need to usually. Also when the engine is turned off there is a strange clunk from the engine. Any ideas?? And is a warranty fix, covered by year 2 warranty?? Cheers guys for any help you can give.

And one more thing, the steering seems really light, as if the city steering button is on, but its not!

It sounds like it could be the EGR valve. I had the same problem on the wifes 1.9 Sporting. No power low down then picked up at about 2500rpm. No warning lights and no fault showing on diagnostic but turned out it was a sticking EGR valve. They did try cleaning it out as an interim measure but problem came back the next day and the valve was replaced under warranty.

Thanks for that i will mention when i call garage in the morning. When i started the car this morning, which starts fine no problems, i pressed the accelerator and there was nothing, did again and eventually it spluttered and spluttered and then the revs came up higher. Getting annoyed with my GP now , maybe time to say goodbye. Shame is a great car performance and drive wise, but not prepared to put up with the need to go back to the dealer. Also, anyone had an issues with the roller lock on the driver seat, was driving a week ago and somehow the seat is released and go flying forward onto the steering wheel, luckily i braked and got a hand to the handbrake to stop the car, was going down a hill with sheer drop if i hadnt stopped. Scary

Cheer up!:)

Up above the streets and houses,
Rainbow climbing high.
Everyone can see it climbling
Through the sky.

Paint the whole world with a rainbow!

I don't know what problems you've had but the wifes car is May 2006 so relatively early one. The only problems have been the driver door lock, a known problem on early cars, a split air intake pipe (no performance loss just an annoyingly loud whistle) and the EGR valve.
The EGR valve problem isn't unique to Fiat, other manufacturers are having problems too.

I wouldn't get rid of the Sporting just yet, I've an Alfa 147 GTA, which I love, but I really enjoy the Sporting too but don't get to drive it enough (probably why the thing had choked up so much :D)

Hey guys. Phoned the garage and told them my problem, but looks like i am going to have to live with it until after easter weekend as they are backed up after march 1st  Told the guy about the EGR valve suggestion and he said that makes sense, so lets hope. They going to fix the seat too. Oh and they have some block or something to put on the rear discs to try and prevent the whole brake droning thing. I hope they can fix as i dont want to part company with the car, but these few niggles are annoying.

On the rear discs, they basicly put some rubber bungs to even out the balance or something along those lines. I had a Panda 100hHP courtesy car that had the same problem. Mines been done now, its far better on rare occasions it will still make the noise.

Although that is quite funny, my car is not:mad: It finally died last night, starts fine, but just no power, foot to floor and there is no roar. Having it that sadly taken away on the back of a recovery truck tomorrow, not happy.

Its the 1.9 diesel Multijet engine. Its struggling to to have any power now, it really is spluttering when you try to put the accelerator down. Why so??

Is it an easy fix then?? Im concerned about the repair taking ages for parts and stuff to arrive as they provide absolutely awful courtesy cars. Had some clapped out old datsun type thing last time, honestly i did, was hardly road legal!!

10 minute job if they have the part in stock (should do as its quite common) if not on the GP it is on the Alfa's and they use the same part if i remember right.

Just be thankful your getting a car. One time I got sweet FA although they did pay for me a taxi to work  :)

EGR has been suggested previously and is most likely according to the garage. They dont have that in stock and dont know whether they can get before easter. If its a rubbish courtesy car, i will have to claim the courtesy car via my breakdown cover which is even more hassle.
