Well, couple of weeks ago my 1.4 sporting started making a noise as if the exhaust was blowing when putting the footdown and a lack of power was also noticeable....

Got the exhaust checkout, not that....car was miss firing..!!! got it hook in to a computer no fault visable so booked it in to dealer...now the story starts.

Visit 1, fault traced to cylinder 4 so spark plug replaced. collected car no sooner that i was out on the road there was no noticeable difference so back to the dealer for another visit the next day.

Visit 2, All spark plugs were replaced, still no difference, car running at a power loss can't hit top revs struggling to get past 80mph...so back to dealer, unable to determin fault so have to revist for computer update and diagnostics.

Visit 3, Get message that car requires a sensor??!!? ok np, so book it in for that to be replace.

Visit 4, Picked up car tonight and the map sensor has been replaced (Unsure what that does? Mr T...) anyhow drove car out on road and is better but still not right, in third and beyond can hear exhaust blowing type noise and still lack of power. Sitting idle cars hickuping a little and not running smoothly and is lumpy....so it's been left with the dealer to organise a full diagnostics with another company. Have been given an active 1.2 and have to say it's like night and day no obscure noises from the engine bay.

Awaiting update from dealer. Any one had a possable experience with a 1.4 sporting before where the engine is not running over as it should?

I had similiar problems from when I got the car (Grande Punto 1.4 16v). The Dealers could not find the problem and nothing was reported from the ECU. I had to change two sensors (air temperature transmitter and Pressure transmitter (MAP)) and after that the car is OK. The sound you hear is from the engine. The avance is not correct and the engine is very noisy (under load). You have already change the MAP sensor so check also the air temperature transmitter in the air intake.

Hi,

Did you get your problem with the engine running sorted out and if you did, what was found to be the problem?

Cheers

You may need to have the catalytic convertor replaced. If the car misfires or unburnt fuel passes into the exhaust system then there is a risk that the cat will be damaged. Ask an independent expert.
