Do i have to let my insurance company know if i change my allows to the 17" fiat versions found on the sportings?

also what about lowering do they need to know about that?

If so....whats the effect? How much? anyone got any good companies/ good qoutes?

cheers!

Yes you do have to declare them even if you're swapping alloys for alloys as the 17s are an optional extra and everyone who's even had an insurance quote will know that they ask about modifications including optional extras.

If your car has alloys as standard, you dont need to declare the change

yes and no, if the car comes with alloys as standard this is included in the premium, however if you change the alloys to an upgraded size or even same size but different style even from the same manufacturer you need to disclose this to the insurers, it wont necessarily (ignore spelling) make a difference to the cost of your insurance but it keeps your insurance valid

Insurance companies see individuals who carry out major mods as a higher risk than those that dont. If you carry out mods and dont declare the fact, they are within their rights to withdraw cover and refuse to pay out. Its not what you do that matters, its the fact you have done it.

If you are going to get the 17" GP sporting wheels then you could also just play dumb and if the worst happens and you crash then just say that they were on the car when you brought the car and you didn't know they were different.

Who would do such a thing!!

Insurance companies aren't dumb either! If you change something then declare it. Really worth risking loosing many thousands if not covered in the event of an accident because of undeclared mods?? I certainly wouldn't risk it! If you can't afford the higher premium then don't do the modification, an uninsured accident will cost alot more!!

Anybody made claims with this insurance company yet, or been in an accident with someone from this company, and tried claiming off them?

A friend was with them at uni, had a few mods on his Clio 172. He had an accident but not sure if he claimed as it was fairly minor, i'll ask him when I speak to him.

As for Quinn allowing modifications (non performance enhancing) surely the initial premiums are higher?

Anyone comment on this? I need to renew my insurance next month.

(not that im going to be doing an mods in the near future).

Well, as I live in N.I. maybe its different but they were the only people to quote me under 2k.

1200 for my first year.

I've had a claim with them which cost about £1500. They sorted everything pretty well, one minor cock up with the garage the tried to send me to but nothing major.

They were the cheapest policy i could find for myself on both my Seat Ibiza and on my GP. They just really dont care about non engine mods. Providing you tell them about it. They just send you a from to declare the modification and thats it, job done.
