ECU Reset

Can anybody tell me anything about re-setting the ECU on a 1.2 Active ??

Does this need to be done by a main dealer & if so, how much should this cost ??

If not, is it something I can do myself ??

It would appear that my earlier intermittent re-occuring idle speed problem can be cured by re-setting the ECU but I don't really want to have to book it in at the main dealers everytime, if I can help it....:worship::worship:

That wont work on this car and the reset procedure will only work as a temporary fix, it needs a new throttle body mate.

Matt did your mk2b engine warning light flash after you had disconnected the battery? If not you did not do an ecu reset.

Believe me i know what i am talking about.

No problem Matt, if me or T win I will make sure to let you know. I am fairly sure T has kept quiet about how Fiat have recognised how good he is, but I have a big mouth and have blown his secret.(y)

Fair play to you and T NumanR, we know how good T is and appreciate his help and support, I just wish there were more around the country just like you guys... (y)

There are loads but they are just not recognised. Maybe theres a excellent tech at your local dealership but because someone else has worked on your car (and perhaps made a mess of it or left fingerprints etc) you dismiss the garage.

NumanR is the top dog (something no one can deny with his background - see post #47!) & within the network & I often phone him for help:worship: but thats what makes it so good as fiat techs (d4nny8oy, pip junior & elder, fiattech,c.butcher etc) help each another to solve customers problems & discuss problems they have encounted yet at other garages I worked at I found they tended to keep info to themselves (knowledge is power?), end of the day were not always right and are human but we do our best not only in working hours but outside aswell as we believe in the product. You can also imagine the frustration we all go through when we do work so hard yet take a constant slagging (maybe some of it is deserved?) on the forums...some back up once in awhile would be nice (actually that is starting to happen especially on this forum).

Thanks for that mate - I'll run it by the guys @ Sandicliffe Fiat (Nottingham) but I doubt they'll do anything unless the fault re-occurs.

One of the customer service execs at Fiat UK (Sue O'Ri##dan) has already made it quite clear that Fiat are unwilling to help, unless the fault is present when the car is in the workshop (no errors showing on the ECU either). She has said that she has checked with the Fiat Tech guys and has told me that unless a fault is showing on the ECU, there isn't a fault.

This is why I've been moaning about the poor customer service - It's directed at the customer service dept., not the tech guys. I find it hard to believe that tech guys would give that sort of answer - all the tech guys I've previously encountered are hungry for infomation regarding their products, whether it's cars, computers, motorbikes etc. in an effort to improve them. I feel that I'm just being brushed aside by a pen pusher who is only interested in the bottom line and couldn't care less about loyal customers

If the 2nd year of the warranty runs out before the fault re-occurs, would this be covered by the 3rd year dealer warranty ?? If not, approx. how much would a new throttle body cost ?? :worship:

AJK I will pm you my details and the vehicle details that we fixed which had this exact problem, with no fault codes! There was a teseo and customer services case on this vehicle.

How much will a new throttle body cost me ?? (if Fiat UK customer service ignore my problem, as before!!)

The details about the other car would be much appreciated - it would give me some ammo against Sue O at Fiat UK. :worship::worship:

The Weather has started to get colder and guess what - the idle speed issues have returned.

I took it back to the dealers today & guess what - it was still doing it when one of their technicians inspected the car.

Result - they've booked it in for two weeks time, so I've still got to drive it when it's going like a bag of sh#t - I'm still waiting for any comments from Fiat UK, I've demanded that they re-open my case and hopefully supply a courtesy car (I nearly got rear ended when it cut out uexpectedly on the approach to a fairly busy traffic island today!!).

I'll keep you posted - but any ideas why it might have this idle speed problem in cold weather ?? It doesn't do it every time when it's cold - it's still an intermittent problem - is the throttle body still a posssssibility ??:confused:

mind you - at least the tech.guy saw it happen this time (y)
