Question Warranty Problems - GP 1.2 Active 56 plate

I've just about reached the limits of my patience with my GP 1.2 Active and the problems with the intermittent cutting out of the engine (see earlier threads)

To cut a long story short, the car has an intermittent problem which causes the engine to cut out when it reaches idle speed - it drops to about 400rpm and cuts out. When it happens, it carries on like this for anything between about 10 miles, upto about 80 miles, where it seems to re-set itself. I want the problem found and fixed while it's under warranty.

Unfortunately the dealer said they can't replicate the fault and Fiat UK have agreed with them that if no errors are showing on the ECU and they can't replicate an intermittent fault, then NO errors exist and they can't help. This seems a nice way of Fiat ducking out of/avoiding a potentially expensive repair - can anybody advise me on my next steps with Fiat ?? I just seem to be banging my head against a wall with their customer service team.

So much for the peace of mind that buying a new car with a 3 year warranty is supposed to give nothing but stress!!

It would seem that it's just my luck to get the one and only faulty GP 1.2 Active Any advice would be appreciated...........

Re: AJ......Kelly

Personally next time it did it i would drive it to the nearest dealer and hope it hadnt reset itself before i got there. I know how frustrating it is when they can't find a problem tho there is one. Good luck

Yea good luck, oh and by the way this isnt just a quaint Fiat thing, most manufacturers would have trouble with an intermittent, its exactly the same with anything that has a fault now and again not just cars, but the dealers could be a little more empathetic and maybe loan u a car for a day or 2 and see if one of the Sales guys could get it to happen driving to and from home, but that may not be acceptable to some people.

Hope it gets fixed.

Chin up...

Re: Warranty Problems - GP 1.2 Active 56 plate

I think you need to put your foot down here. Demand that they look into it properly. A car doesnt just cut out for no reason.

Has it been given the latest software update?

I wouldnt stand for that tbh. I have a 56 GP active and the 2nd year warrenty expires this september, and my GP will be going back to the garage every day until my issues are sorted.

I feel your pain mate as I feel exactly the same. Warranty doesn't mean $hit if they can't fix the problem.

Might sound stupid but maybe capture it on film the next time it happens, so at least you can prove to the dealer/Fiat that there is a problem and that you're not just making it up.

CPS, blocked breather pipe.software update, throttle learn phase....one of them will sort it. Personally i'd do all 4 after all not exactly expensive (30 odd all in)

By the way its not 'ducking out of/avoiding a potentially expensive repair' its simply they cant fault the car no one is to blame.

Re: Warranty Problems - GP 1.2 Active 56 plate

Go to a different Fiat dealer - a bigger more modern one.
Helps a lot - the small garages are generally crap.
Desira in Southgate is great - they know everything - fix stuff the 1st time around, never argue about the fault and order replacement parts with ease.
Recommended.
What you've experienced is 'bull****'.

The dealer in question is Sandicliffe, who until last week have had my car for 4 months + supplied a courtesy car (Top Guys down there). I can understand when they say they can't replicate the fault and that no errors are showing in the ECU - but to say that Fiat UK have never heard of a similar problem and are unable to assist - that defies belief - you would think the guys at Fiat would like to find out why there is an intermittent fault on one of their cars, but it would appear that they just can't be bothered

When the car is running properly, I would rate it as an 9 out of 10 - we like it that much When it is playing up with the cutting out at idle speed - I can't really list my feelings about the car As for Fiat UK customer services - at the moment I would rate them as a 5 out of 10 and thats only becasue they answer the phone fairly quickly + the number is freephone!!

COME ON - LETS HAVE SOME BETTER SERVICE FOR US LOYAL FIAT CUSTOMERS

I've been playing merry hell with Fiat UK but they just don't seem to be bothered. I suppose if they drag it out long enough, the car will be out of warranty and not their problem

Is there anywhere higher that I could take my complaint ?? some sort of ombudsman who regulates warranty complaints ??

If during the period of the 2 year warranty, your vehicle should be off the road for warranty repair work which exceeds one working day, the repairing authorised Fiat Dealer will provide (STA) a free of charge courtesy vehicle for the duration of the repair.
