Ive said it before and I will say it again, ive just fitted Falken ZE512s on the front of mine, my fronts were very worn at 14k and finally replaced at 16k which is poor for the 1.4 IMO, these tyres have a treadwear rating of more than twice as good the REO50s, so should theoretically last alot longer, I find them to ride much better, track truer on the motorway and are much quieter, get them from www.Camskill.co.uk and have a local place fit them.

Also, 1000miles later, the tyres are still brand new and still have the green line around the middle, despite having been used on gravel, in the rain and on muddy bumpy country lanes mostly.

Also Sumo Firenzas are good so far on my 1.9. Great wet grip, quiet an true running. £52 a corner so doesnt matter as much if they wear out after 14k miles :D
 
Chris,I don't drive like a learner either,I drive like the police class 1 (traffic)qualified driver that I am,my pupils eventually drive as good as anyone else when they are at test standard and on average only get 4 minor faults,some get zero.yet,even with all the manoeuvering I do I usually achieve about 35 - 40000 per set.

Have to agree with johnlummis here guys, its about how you set a car up for a corner, in advance to reduce the ask on the tyre, if you like its almost straightening the corner out within the limitations of the bend. I took a Formula Ford single seater race course and with the motor at the back it becomes crucial to set up and drive smoothly around bends.
 
Pirrelli P Zero Nero's are great tyre for grip but won't provide much in the way of lasting if you don't treat them gently I had a full set on my Merc 190 Cosworth and the rears lasted about 9000 miles

The bridgestones are probaly slight more hardwearing I have always found Pirellui tyre's to wear out quickly just my opinion though.
 
Good man (y). Can't stand tyre snobs buying potenza's just because fiat put them on.... should read some of the reviews on potenza's :eek:

reo50 where specially developed for 1 car that car being the Ferrari ENZO say no more
 
What is wrong with the standard fit potenza's...seem to grip pretty well for me? :confused:

Nothing wrong with the Potenzas, apart from the minor fact that they cost approximately £100 per tyre and seem unable to last 10,000 miles. :bang:

My annual mileage is just over 30k, which means £3,500 in diesel, 3 sets of front tyres at £600, £300 service, £500 road tax and insurance, grand total nearly £5k! If I could find a tyre at half the cost of the Potenzas that gives me more mileage, say 15-20k, then I'll be saving £400 per annum, which is 8% drop of my annual budget to run my car. And that is a hell of a lot of money, surely?:D

I read a few webpages about Falken, they are made in Japan and they cost between £53-£57 per tyre. I do understand the Pirelli Zero won't last long, 3-4 months down the line I will very likely try the Falkens. Has anybody else tried those tyres in the GP Sporting JTD?:confused:
 
So f***, does that mean there going to work on every car in every condition?..... No. It means they work well on a super car with super fat wheels on a dry race circuit.

until someone can prove to me that the cheaper tyres a more superior i will stick wih branded tyres SO F**K(n)

Lol...I've only done 2.5K miles...Although they do seem a soft compound.

3 sets of front tyres strange i got 16k out of both sets done almost 40 k now
 
I can vouch for Falken Ze512's had them on the Alfa 156 for 22k and still had 3.5mm of tread left and thats including a track day too!. The grip in the dry was average I would say nearly as good as potenza's but not quite, in the wet they ARE as good if not better and they last longer and cost half the price!. Also have less tyre noise as well. Toyo Proxies are another good tyre but they wear fast too!.

I used to be a tyre snob buying nothing but the best Yokohama's (at £105 online for 15"!!) but when money was tight I tried the falkens and was pleasantly surprised now I wont look back. With me its either Toyo Proxies, Falken ZE512's (these have rim protectors too :)) or Kumho Ecstasa Sport.

I must admit im surprised how quick peoples potenza's are wearing out there not that bad. Must be very Dependant on driving and road conditions. I sold my grande with 10000ish miles on the clock and the tyres were pretty newish!.
 
I can vouch for ChrisUK's reply. For the last 20+ years I have always replaced OEM performance tyres with Falkens. They have a great tread pattern, are relatively cheap, wear much better than the opposition - and unless you drive like a lunatic they are great in the dry & wet. In short, a perfect replacement for the Bridgestone RE050A (which is c**p on snow or ice).

Having said that, my GPS130 (a second runaround car) has done 9600 miles of spirited driving & the factory fitted original Bridgestones have 5mm front & 6mm rear. A brand new tyre has 8mm..... The car is also remapped to 160bhp.(y)

It includes a few major tyre names, it gives a goo dindication nevertheless. For the record, Bridgestone Potenza RE040/050 have a treadwear rating of 140, the Pirelli Zero Nero have a treadwear rating of 220, according to th
is information the Pirellis I fitted last week should give me more than 9,000 miles I got from the Potenzas. I'll find out in a few weeks!

I take it most of the miles are clocked on for commuting to work? If so why don't you just move closer to your place of work??? :shrug:

Well if i had a 'rep' style job and had to use my own personal job then i'd claim the money back from my company. you shouldn't have to use your own car unless, you are self employed of cause.
