Been getting water in my tailgate for a few months when I open the boot but it's not copious amounts, probably half a small cup when its been raining.

I know this is a known issue but noticed there are drain plugs. Should there be no water coming out therefore maybe the seals need doing? or is some water normal as long as the tailgate is not filling up?
Mines a late 07 car so thought this had been sorted.

Thanks

Ive this prob on mine and its really pi**ing me off. Been back to the dealers 4 times and on the last time they fitted a new upper brake light bit it is still doing it. Ive tested it myself and there is NO water getting in through the wiper spindle or badge so i am going to remove the brake light and seal round it with some clear silicone sealer. Soon as the weather clears up i will have a go at it. Cheers

Could it be getting in around the tailgate hinges?

My dealer did that and used ALOT of silicone. It still leaks! Try it mate but I doubt it will work.

where from? or should I say where does it actually leak into the car.

It normally just gets into the tailgate and pours out the drain holes when i open the boot. However when i opened the boot the other day water poured onto the parcel shelf, seemed to be coming from the top of the rear window. Looks like a trip back to the dealer is needed. Im not sure where it leaks into the car.

I have noticed a small gap inbetween the two halves of the boot lid (best to get a photo to show you), on the right side, not sure if this is where water is getting in or not.

Your lucky, my car is totally soaked and it doesnt go into the dealer till next week, had the problem about a month and as the weather as been pretty bad recently its let loads of water in....i had to get a sponge last week into the boot ( were the spare wheel would be) and i managed to soak up around 2-3 pint of water ! i checked this morning and now all the back seats and pi55ed wet through ! gonna have to get the sponge out tomoz and sort, roll on next week when hopefully it will be sorted....oh and the water has found its way onto the carpet under the driver seats !

Actually this might be a different problem than water in the tailgate.

hi all, just came across this thread, and ma car does the exact same ! wen a open ma boot a get a whole swiming pool worth of water cumin from the right drainer thing ! so this isnt ment to happen then ? great another problem, this cars starting to do ma head in !!

I have a simular problem but its not the boot thats wet its behind the drivers seat, in the footwell, its just really really damp. My dealer is sorting it out next week for me doing a water test on the whole car, they said that there going to replace the whole carpet. I aint to fussed though my dealer can sort it out on warranty.

Re-However when I opened the boot the other day water poured onto the parcel shelf.
I too have the same issue with water draining from the bottom right drain holes and from the middle of the tailgate into the parcel shelf. To me it looks like the parcel shelf problem is down to the lip under the bottom part of the glass. When the lip gets overwhelmed with rain water most of it runs off but a portion of it stays trapped in the glass lip waiting for you to open the tailgate.
In search of a cure I'm going to try and put a slight amount of black sealant just under both sides of the glass lip, just at the ends to see if this alleviates some of the water drainage. If this works I will then de-trim the tailgate and get my son to sit in the boot until he finds the water leak, whilst I hold the hose pipe in one hand and a beer in the other. Its a tough job but it needs doing.

Mark.

I have the "leaking tailgate" syndrome.

I too am getting really hacked off with it.

Original dealer re-sealed the glass and replaced the release mechanism that had exploded from being submerged in water - no change - still leaking

New dealer sealed the badge - no change

Then sealed the wiper spindle - no change

Was then told it wasn't covered under warranty - exploded and called Fiat several times - car went back to garage again

New diagnosis - the screen seal has to re done - even though it was allegedly done as the first fix

To add to the frustration the EGR valve now needs replacing

Then discovered that the garage I bought the car from hadn't changed the warranty to me, so my garage refused to do the work untill is is changed

Got warranty changed but don't have any confidence as garage say they will TRY and fix the leak

Have told them if it isn't fixed this time I will take it to a garage who can fix it and bill Fiat and tell the world - Quintin Wilson lives nearby

All this is a shame as the car is great otherwise

I've been through all this "water in the tailgate" problem myself and foolishly posted in Feb '09 that I thought the problem was cured! After five trips to my local Fiat dealer that did appear to be the case for several months until this winter. Since October last year the problem has been as bad as ever.

I really can't be bothered with it anymore but I think Fiat will have a problem on their hands in a few years when GP tailgates start rusting through prematurely!!
