Have been noticing this since its been getting colder over the last few months, when im driving the car will warm up as normal but as soon as i let off the accelerator or brake the engine temperature gauge drops a bit  Is this normal?

I know my cars due a service very soon, but i have checked oil, coolant etc all is at the top and fine. I left the engine running in the car park for 5 minutes before i went into work this morning and the temperature gauge dropped a whole division on the dial, so im really not sure if something is up! Have any of the tech guys heard of this on a GP mjtd before?

Thanks
BoB Bob

i've got a 1.2 active and mine does the same especially if i'm stood in traffic and its cold my car starts to go cold. mine had a service about 2months ago but i didnt notice it doing it last year...

weird!

Well.... maybe if they all do it.... its not a fault!? :D

And yes mine does it too! (y)

So as long as everybody elses GP has a dash light out, grinding brakes, squeeking brakes, knocking suspension, a faulty steering rack and a knackered finish on their wheels then I have a faultless GP, yes!

iirc autoblanco's 1.4 petrol has the same problem so it must be across all ranges, which surprises me as I would imagine this only to be an issue with the diesels.

OMG Kris your getting psychotic!
A fluctuation downwards in temperature indication is hardly going to stop the world is it? No such thing as a faultless anything you know that!
If I said my fuel gauge fluctuates differently from your would I call it a fault? And how the feck would I convince the staff at FIAT I had a car problem that needed fixing? Chill pill time... (y)

haha I think I am ffoxy, I can see the headlines: "young man goes crazy with axe at local fiat dealership"

I don't class this as a fault on my GP otherwise would have mentioned it by now, as long as the little needle doesn't go above the centre point i'm quite content :)

Quite so Kris lmao! :)

rolling up to 18k miles now and I'm still a happy bunny... I suppose the test will be when the Warranty expires....

 Sell it and buy another!

 Would that be smart?

Sell the house and buy an Audi R8! :slayer: :worship:

Just over 19k on mine, I'll sell it as soon as the warranty runs out, not that I don't have faith in my GPS because I do....

An R8 you say? I've seen a minter and it's only 26k!!

Think I will pass that one up! My skills still dont match the price tag!

I have a GPS M-jet 1.9. Just been our for a drive, temperature needle stayed rock solid in middle of gauge after car had warmed up, and stayed there at all times. Even when sitting in traffic or at lights it stayed in middle of gauge. It is baltic weather here, -1 degree. Looks like some of you guys have a dodgy thermostat or your gauge is faulty. If the car heater cools down, looks like a dodgy thermostat staying open.

My needle drops about a needles width, heater stays hot and car warms up quickly.

I'm not gonna look for problems that probably dont exist.
