My daughter has problems with her Fiat Punto Grande's dashboard, the icons don't light up sometimes, no speed reading which caused her anxiety. Also when this happens she doesn't know if the indicator lights are flashing. She has taken the car back to the dealer three times and they say they cannot find anything wrong telling her to bring it back when it happens again! It is impossible to take it back to them exactly when it happens as she is not near to them and by the time she has stopped on one of her calls that she has to make, when she gets back in the car it has defaulted back to how it should be. Tomorrow she is taking it back and is going to refuse to be fobbed off again until they can solve it someway. Can anyone shed some light on this problem?

posted fine, welcome to the forum (this is the best bit...the GP section;)) is it 3 or 5 door?

Arrange a courtesy car for a few days & get any 'niggles' sorted then you can start to enjoy the car.Any problems call back here for help.

also if your Daughter is anything like my Sister get/ force her to check the Oil level REGULARLY as they can use a bit of oil......

My daughter saw the garage and they have a arranged a courtesy car for her for next Monday. They had it today and said they could not find a problem but she insisted. They say the car has all the updates. Many thanks, I appreciate your help. Mavis

What Legal Rights?

Have told you that my daughter's GP is going into garage next week, they will give her a courtesy car. She would like to know what she can do if they find nothing wrong again and it happens again to her. Naturally, she has not a lot of confidence in the car now. Be very grateful for your thoughts. Thanks. Mavis

Re: What Legal Rights?

Maybe u can remind the Forum Mavis, what was / is the problem? There is always the right to reject the vehicle depending on severity, how long she had it, attempts to correct the fault etc.

Re: What Legal Rights?

I seem to keep getting mixed up finding my way into the thread again, must be a different one as you hadn't seen previous messages. My daughter has now had four episodes of electrics not working properly, no speed showing, rev counter and no indicator lights showing whether on or off. As she is driving around all these things are very worrying, especially when she has her children in and no speedo!. The dealer says to bring the car back as it happens, but her job is as an advisor visiting the elderly and she cannot just stop her work and get back to the dealer and then it reverts back before she can go to see them.

She has no faith now and wonders what her rights are now if the dealer does not find any faults and it happens again. Many thanks.

Re: What Legal Rights?

They might require to keep the car for a few days if the problems persist (n)

That way they can keep an eye on it and see if the problems happen whilst they have it.

I had to take my stilo on a long drive with someone in the car so that they could see my didgy fuel gauge :), before they fitted a new body computer (y)

Re: What Legal Rights?

i think the car may need an electronics update to be honest Mavis
Good luck with the dealer, but there are some guys on here that are FIAT specialists who may know different.

Good Luck.

Re: What Legal Rights?

It is an easy fault for fiat to sort they plug their computer into the car and press a few buttons i had this problem with mine and it took one visit and not had the problem since (now that is really tempting feat)

if it happens to her in the meen time the simpleist way of curing it is to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes this resets the computer unit (it is really simple to do and needs no tools or electrical knowlage Fiat have fitted what is best dfescribed as a quick release lever to the negative connection (or pole) of the battery this enables the fire brigade a fast way to take off the battery at the sceine of an accident....

you just open the gray lever and lift the metal ring off the battery leave if off for 5 mins then reconnect and it "should" work

like this

dont worry about this shorting as its the Negative connection that is connected to the car body

Mavis..........stop worrying! You say its your daughters car, introduce her to the forum.

Firstly have some understanding, intermittent faults are extremely hard to locate so give garage a chance,I have had some customers visit the garage over 10 times to pinpoint a difficult intermittent fault, luckily I find most customers understanding if you are upfront & honest with them, failing that try another garage...failing that then contact customer relations & request a field enginer visit.
