Hi,
Thinking of purchasing a hid kit for my gps. it comes complete with x2 bulbs, ballest units, all wiring and instruction, has anybody done this to a gps yet and is there any advice on whether to get them or not.

cheers ben

i was looking into this not so long ago heard alot of good things about them, a mate has them on his set leon cupra R, the difference is amazing, huge difference to standard bulbs.

It might confuse the Bulb Failure indicator circuit. Handbook does say dont make any changes to the vehicle electrical system without consulting the dealer.

the more i look into it the more im getting put off, lot of requirments to mkae them legal, need self leveling, h/lamp washer jets, and a reflectoir meant for hid bulbs becuase a standard one will not project the patter and dazzle drivers and also wont pass its mot. so ill just stick with my phillips blue vision ones :slayer:

When I first got my car I fitted a HID kit, easy to fit and does not cause an issue with the light out warning system. As you say they are an mot failure if not self levelling and washerjets. The ballests are also fiddly to find a gap for and a hole needs cutting in the rubber cap to feed the wire through as the ballest sits outside the headlight unit.

I found the lights gave a really rubbish spread of light and made a very distinctive lack of light infront of the car on full beam. I therefore put my old bulbs back in and was not impressed by the HID kit. The bonus is the bulbs the GP uses means that by buying one HID kit you get low and high beam instead of having to buy a kit for each.

Any further questions or help required I will try and assist.

Cheers

Alex

I've had my HID kit for over 6 months, without any issues so far. I share some of Alex's feedback: it was easy to fit, with one kit you get both low and high beams. . but my experience has been different:

Light with the low beam was much better, more and a better patern, so much that I rarely use the highs anymore. The light with the high beam did not improve as much as the lows, only slightly better.

As such it has been a great change to my car, and have been very happy with them.
