Thought I would share my experience changing the oil and filter in Aus where Fiat is still super rare (only sold here just over a year):

1. The filter as far as I can tell is ONLY available from the dealership - Supercheap, Repco, Autobarn don't have it. Same with the Selenia WR which the dealer told me flat out is the only oil that will not void the warranty. Fortunately the dealer cut me a discount and I got the filter and 4l of the oil for $90 (list for $115). Not too bad as good synthetic oil costs $75 for 5l.

2. Fiat use "tamper resistant" bolts for both the filter shroud and the sump plug. I got a set of tamper resistant drivers (which look like allen keys only a different pattern) from Supercheap for $10.

3. The filter is located high left on the engine under the shroud which looks like a black dome next to the oil fill. To get access to one of the bolts of the shroud I had to remove the air snorkel which is fortunately easy.

4. Once the shroud is off the filter housing looks like a normal metal filter only black plastic with a big hex on top. I used a 1 1/8" socket to remove it but it was a shade too big and I am sure there is a better fit with a metric socket.

5. Then the filter element pops off the top of the housing once you remove it. This took me a while to work out as I didn't want to break anything. Just give it a sharp pull and it comes off. The new filter came with a new o ring for the filter housing which I replaced.

6. Just a note that if you drain the oil before removing the filter leave the drain pan underneath as you will get a lot more oil once you break the seal on the filter housing.

After all is said and done it was not hard at all but just took some getting used to! After loads of blank looks at the parts shops hope this saves someone else some time...
