Jamie did you not listen to anything I said? You should have got onto fiat uk customer services they would have sorted it, whether you drive like a tool or not your gearbox should not fail after 7k, it's warranty work you shouldn't have paid anything, garages love to bullsh*t young lads.

You are definitely getting a slap when I next see you!

erk, just had a read through this thread.

i drive my car like an idiot quite often, and always have. the engine is kicking out about 30bhp more than stock and the gearbag is the origonal one that was fitted to the car (its at 109k now, i've had it since 72k) - i've not managed to blow it up (beleive me i tried when i was driving around the week before i fitted the new engine!)

i cannot see how you can cause a fault that would lead to a catastrohic fail of the gearbox unless it was already dodgy when it was made. Even if the dif kasplodes, that still isn't your fault - seeing as though its been known to happen on GPs with stock wheels.

i dunno, they were weak on the brava 1.2 (don't ever try and J turn one, the diff dies - but doesnt explode)

I also don't see how having larger wheels is going to strain the dif *that* much more than normal wheels, tbh it just shows that it has been made cheaply and is only just fit for purpose for the stock size wheels.

Its difference in wheel sizes on one axle that would be unwelcome load on a dif, if both wheels are the same - the dif should not give a flying ****. Surely it is the same dif on the 1.4 as well.. the gearbox should be pretty much the same, maybe slightly different final drive in the dif - but that is a case of changing a cog, it shouldnt cause a weakness in the dif!

im having the same problems, but i aint blew my box up yet lol, im thinking of fitting some 205/40/17" on my gp 1.3 derv active. thats my car below. all i have done to her is put the stripes on and painted the wing mirrors white, fitted a set of 15" original active sport wheels, painted calipers and drums blue. the wheels in the picture are the ones i want, i was just trying her new shoes on basically before they went on my moms vauxhall vectra 1.6 sri look a like lol. right the problem i have is that ive rang fiat to see if the wheels will cause any damage to my box, and they sed yes, so when i raise the question 'well you only sell 17" wheels for the 1.3 and 1.9 diesel' and they say well they are fiat manufactered and they aill cover the warrnty. so my question is,, can i fit 205/40/17" to my fiat grande 1.3 multi jet( 75bhp :( )
