It's not necessarily the weight of the wheels causing concern.
It's the width of the wheel which ultimately puts more strain on the driveshaft. The active sport wheels are lighter and not as wide as GrandeJ's.

ah yes cos j's are 215/40/17 hmmm intresting, it would be so bad if the wate was the problem cos it would show how bad the gear box or drive train was if thats all it takes for it to fail!

The 1.2 isn't designed for wide heavy wheels, it's the same with most small cars.

The 1.9 unit in the sporting is the same lump as in the 1.9 astra 888 200bhp, so I don't think an extra 40bhp should be a problem

It's the clutch that is the problem, fortunately the clutch in the 1.9 has been looked at and is said to be strong, and if not I have uprated clutches available to me and stock clutches at good prices.

As far as I know the 1.2 is the fiat F.I.R.E engine but somebody correct me if i'm wrong.

I know that the 1.3 and 1.9 diesel units are used in vauxhalls range (obviously differences made by vauxhall themselves) but in essence the same unit.

Re: woop!

hope the car gets sorted buddy! keep us all updated!

wouldn't the 888's engine be 16v though? where as the 1.9 sporting is 8v. the 120 cdti vx's is the same unit as the GP's but the 150bhp engine is 16v.

are grandeJ's wheels 215? alloy wheel firms usually fit 205's to aftermarket 17's unless you pay the extra cost for the extra width.

and its weight not wate...
